Amen God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness and grow into the fullness of Jesus hrist, our Savior and Lord. Amen Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus hrist, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus hrist was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of hrist, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. 1

Amen (lease be seated) SHARED MINISTRY REMINDERS FIRST READING salm 15 A A reading from salm 15 1 LORD, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? 2 The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; 3 whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; 4 who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the LORD; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; 5 who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken. A Word of God, Word of Life Thanks be to God. SEOND READING Hebrews 13:13-16 A A reading from Hebrews 13-15 So let s go outside, where Jesus is, where the action is not trying to be privileged insiders, but taking our share in the abuse of Jesus. This insider world is not our home. We have our eyes peeled for the ity about to come. Let s take our place outside with 6
Jesus, no longer pouring out the sacrificial blood of animals but pouring out sacrificial praises from our lips to God in Jesus name. 16 Make sure you don t take things for granted and go slack in working for the common good; share what you have with others. God takes particular pleasure in acts of worship a different kind of sacrifice that take place in kitchen and workplace and on the streets. A Word of God, Word of Life Thanks be to God. GOSEL ALAMATION (lease stand as you are able) THE GOSEL Matthew 5:13-16 The Holy Gospel according to Matthew Glory to you, O Lord. 13 You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. A The Gospel of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 7

It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus hrist; who on this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: ONGREGATONAL SONG Holy, Holy, Holy 11
EUHARISTI RAYER Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. hrist has died. hrist is risen. hrist will come again. 12
Gather our prayers with those of the apostles, prophets, martyrs, and all the faithful who have gone before us, and unite them with the unceasing prayer of the One who lives in us and in whom we live, Jesus hrist. Make us bold, O merciful God, to address you as our Abba as we pray: (Abba is an intimate word used by Jesus to address his Father as we might say, Daddy) LORD'S RAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO OMMUNION ome, let us eat, for now the feast is spread. (lease be seated) 13

On behalf of our community youth - THANK YOU!! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Readings for Next Sunday, September 16, 2018 Seventeenth Sunday after entecost Three weeks ago we heard John s gospel s version of eter s confession of faith. This week we hear Mark s version, when eter says, You are the Messiah. In John, the stumbling block is Jesus invitation to eat his flesh, given for the life of the world. In Mark too the scandal has to do with Jesus words about his own coming death, and here eter himself stumbles over Jesus words. But Jesus is anointed (the meaning of messiah ) in Mark only on the way to the cross (14:3); so we are anointed in baptism with the sign of the cross. We invite you to read these texts as you prepare for next Sunday s worship. Isaiah 50:4-9a James 3:1-12 Mark 8:27-38 18

John hrysostom, Bishop of onstantinople, died 407 Thursday, September 13, 2018 John was a priest in Antioch and an outstanding preacher. His eloquence earned him the nickname "hrysostom" ("golden mouth"). Appointed bishop of onstantinople, seat of the empire, he criticized corruption in the court. As a result, he was exiled by the empress. Holy ross Day Friday, September 14, 2018 Helena, mother of onstantine, made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and found what may be the actual site of Jesus' crucifixion.
