It is not what we do, but how much love we put into it. ~Saint Teresa of Calcutta The busy days of the holidays are behind us, Ordinary Time has returned- for some this brings relief, for others a sense of emptiness. But it is in the midst of the ordinary circumstances of life that God delights to send us signs of His love, and He delights when we love Him back! Each morning this week, ask God for the grace to help you see His goodness in where He has put you today. And then pray for the grace to love Him back through the faithful completion of those tasks. Whatever you do, do from the heart, as for the Lord and not for others Col. 3:23

YOU MATTER TO US THERE IS HOPE! New and Noteworthy Hymns Ordinary Time begins: a great time to introduce some new hymns! Holy Wisdom, Lamp of Learning was composed by an American singing school teacher in the 1840 s. This tune is part of the famous American compilation called The Sacred Harp. You will notice how very American the hymn sounds. American music, especially our folk music, is based on five-note, pentatonic scales. Holy Wisdom, Lamp of Learning uses a pentatonic scale in its melody, which also makes it easy to sing! See Us, Lord, About Your Altar is sung to music by the great 19 th century English composer, Sir Edward Elgar. This is a wonderful hymn, with text that illustrates exactly who we are and what we do at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral. The hymn Christ Before Us is sung to the tune of a beautiful Welsh lullaby called SUO GAN. This tune has a slow, lilting melody that is easy to remember. The Welsh are famous for their amazing melodies, as well as for their amazing choirs. The hymns in our missal can highlight our prayer at Mass. However, singing the Mass is still most important so, sing the Gloria, the Psalm, the Alleluia, the Holy, Holy, the Lamb of God and the Communion Antiphons with all your heart! ~Rachael Verhaagh, Music Director CHRISTMAS FLOWER OFFERING Dennis Bushman~Bob Kozak Lyman & Theresa Hansen~Hansen & Petasak Families Marian Sigl~Harvey Sigl Donna Willette~Thomas J.
