From the desk of Father James Happy Easter! He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed! Alleluia! Last week we gathered together to celebrate the Lord s Resurrection from the dead. We know that He is alive and that He has indeed risen from the dead, just as He said. He is victorious over darkness and we are reminded that there is nothing that we are to be afraid of. He has conquered the darkness and we as His baptized disciples take His light out into the world, continuing to dispel the darkness that can so often be seen all around us. Our community has a bit more light shining with us. At Easter Vigil we welcomed two brothers in Christ, already one with us in baptism, to full communion in and with the Catholic Church. James Moslander and Jared Gailey after many months of study and prayer are now full members with us in the faith. Please continue to pray for these newest members of our faith community, that they will continue to grow in their faith and deepen their relationship with Christ and His Church. I would also ask our community to keep in prayer our young brothers and sisters that are continuing to prepare to receive their 1 st Communion and Confirmation in May. As they continue their journey through the Sacraments of Initiation and take these further steps into the fullness of the sacramental life of our Church, may they be filled with joy and hope. As we continue our Easter days, I will continue to offer daily Mass on Mondays until Pentecost. Mondays are my day off but it is my custom to celebrate Mass for and with the community at 12:05 pm every Monday during Lent and Easter. The last Monday Mass will be on Monday, May 14. While daily Mass attendance for Catholics is not required, it indeed is a great blessing for your life if you are able to attend. I started attending daily Mass before I even thought about being a priest and I can attest to the fruits that have been born in my life by attending daily Mass. Our regular daily Mass schedule is as follows: Tuesday 12:05 pm, Wednesday 8:30 am (School Mass, during school year) and 6:00 pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8:30 am. Finally, I want to mention that next weekend, April 14 and 15 we will have a visiting priest with us for the weekend (and I will get a bit of a respite after the busy Lenten days and Holy Week). Fr Robert McAleer from the Diocese of Davenport, Iowa will be with us. He will be speaking about Unbound. This organization partners with families living in poverty, empowering them to be self-sufficient and to fulfill their desired potential. Fr. McAleer will be sharing with us how we can be a part of this ministry. Please welcome him! In the Spirit of St. Francis To Terry Watt, Johanna Jansen, Joyce Venjohn, Louise Gorman, the Battilega family and the Karsseboom family for preparing the church for our Easter celebration. To Mrs. Casey and the fourth grade class for putting the new missals in the church. To Jerry Grondin for all his assistance at all the liturgies of the Triduum and Easter. To everyone who helped with putting up and taking down the extra chairs for the Easter Masses. St. Francis Parish would like to welcome all newcomers and visitors. We turn your attention to the Ministry Table in the narthex of the church where you will find information on the various ministries in our parish and how to contact the coordinator. New parishioners are encouraged to register by calling the office at 503-625-6185. We welcome you as we welcome Christ! In the Spirit of St. Francis...THANK YOU! 3

Grief Share Care Ministry Grief Share started last week, but feel welcome to join us at any time! Please join us if you have experienced a loss of a family member or friend through death, no matter when the loss occurred. We will meet on Mondays (April 2-June 25): 6:30-8:30 pm in the South classroom of the parish center. The cost is $15 for the workbook. Please call Jennifer Mirek in the parish office with any questions or to register. Anna Wilson Social Action Coordinator anna@stfrancissherwood.org 503-625-7067 Food Pantry Hours: Wednesday 9-11am & 5-7pm Thursday 9-11am Pantry needs: peanut butter, canned fruit, canned veggies, canned soup, toilet paper, flour, sugar, and evaporated milk Hope Diner host: St Francis Team 3 Rosary Makers The St Francis Rosary Makers recently sent 300 Handmade Rosaries to Missionary Sisters in Minnesota. We are also able to repair Rosaries. There will be a basket in the outer narthex for broken rosaries. If you would like one to be repaired and returned to you, please put it in a baggie with your name and phone number. We will also accept religious articles that you no longer want...small statues, prayer books, Holy cards, medals, etc. Those will all be sent to the Living Rosary in Texas. They will send them on to the missions. Many of us receive religious items in the mail that we don't want, but don't know what to do with. One lady had a sack full from grade school! 5

Respect Life "As a gift to humanity, which sometimes seems bewildered and overwhelmed by the power of evil, selfishness, and fear, the Risen Lord offers His love that pardons, reconciles, and reopens hearts to love. It is a love that converts hearts and gives peace. How much the world needs to understand and accept Divine Mercy! ~St Pope John Paul II Catholic Corner What must we do if we sin against the eighth commandment? If we sin against the eighth commandment, we must repair the harm done as far as we are able. This obligation is especially present for one who is guilty of calumny. St. Paul Family Catechism. Next Week: Does the Catholic Church have the authority to make laws and precepts? 6

Happening this Week: Announcements There will be a Knights of Columbus breakfast after the morning Masses this Sunday, April 8. There will be no blood pressure screening on Sunday after either Mass. Parish Announcements: Next weekend, April 14 & 15, please welcome Fr Robert McAleer who will be with us to celebrate Masses and tell us about the work of Unbound, a lay Catholic sponsorship ministry that helps children and elderly in 18 developing countries. To learn more, call 800-875-6564 or visit Unbound online at www.unbound.org. The Youth Group is hosting their annual Spaghetti Dinner next Saturday, April 14 at 6:30 pm. Please join us for a fun evening of dinner and dancing. Tickets will be sold after Mass this weekend. All proceeds will go to help pay for the youth attending the Steubenville Youth Conference in July. The 4th Annual St Francis Endowment Brunch will be on Wednesday, April 18, immediately following the 8:30 am School Mass. There are 28 complimentary seats available on a first come first served basis. If you are interested in learning more about St Francis School and the St Francis School Endowment, please contact the school office to register to attend the brunch. Please note that if you have already been invited to attend by a table sponsor, you do NOT need to register with the office. Please have your CRS Rice Bowls turned in before Sunday April 22. Please count your contributions and write a check for the total amount to St. Francis with CRS Rice Bowls in the memo line. This will make it easier for us to consolidate donations before sending them to Catholic Relief Services. Thank you for your giving and prayers during this Lenten Season! The Care Ministry needs your help bringing Christ and community to our parishioners who can no longer attend Mass. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact Jennifer in the parish office. The tile wall will be repaired this spring once we have some warmer weather. Many tiles will need to be reset and a few more tiles that have been ordered and paid for will be placed. We are currently in the bidding process for a new tile contractor. Please contact the parish office if you have questions. Out of Parish: Divine Mercy Holy Hour with Archbishop Alexander Sample is at St. Mary's Cathedral starting at 2:30 pm this Sunday, April 8. The Divine Mercy Chaplet chanted is at 3:00 pm and Confessions are from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm. The 83rd Annual Archbishop's Seminary Tea is Wednesday, April 25 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Portland Golf Club.
