Volume MMXI; Issue 11 Page 5 Venerable Master of Kadosh Words to Live By: The year is in full swing. The Feast of Remembrance is a past success and we are moving forward to the Feast of The Manifesto scheduled for June 7 th. This is when we honor our 50 year members. The Consistory is responsible for the program and I believe you will be pleased. That said, we are busy in the month of March. The Grand Master of Masons in Texas will be at the Alamo on the 3 rd with an area conference to follow at the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium. The next weekend is the Valley Reunion where a Lodge of Perfection will be constituted. This ceremony has not been seen in the Texas Orient since the 1960s. Don t miss it. The third weekend is relatively light with the Greening of the river for all of you part-time Irish. It takes more than green beer to make you Irish. Do not forget the state-wide Scottish Rite Convocation in Waco, which starts on Friday the 30 th and runs through the weekend with the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite for the Southern Jurisdiction, Ronald Seale, 33, along with several of the world s top Scottish Rite scholars, presenting their opinions and answering your questions. It s individual Masons who help their Lodge survive and thrive Ed Halpaus Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is not to stop questioning. Scottish Rite News Page 6 From the Commander A Brief Summary for the new as well as the old members of Words to Live By: An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow man. Thomas Jefferson The greater the power, the more dangerous the abuse. Edmund Burke The Council of Kadosh 19-30 The Council of Kadosh is the third of the four bodies which comprise the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. Kadosh means Holy or set appart The legendary material for some of the Council Degrees comes from the traditions of the Knights Templar, and the Degrees are generally known as the Philosophic and Chivalric Degrees. Journney of the Council of Kadosh In the journey of the Council of Kadosh, the hero discovers the means to express that spirituality in the world. If it is true, as the 18th-century British Statesman Edmund Burke wrote, that all that is required for evil to triumph over good is for good men to do nothing. Then it follows that for good to triumph over evil, good men must be active. But active doing what? What should we support or oppose? How strongly should we be involved? What causes are really important? Which ones may seem more important than they truly are? The hero has now been given most of the tools he needs to complete the quest - i.e. to live a good, caring, happy, productive life of benefit to himself and others. He must now learn how to use the tools, discover the identity of the enemies of pease and human liberty, and affirm his role in the ongoing battle for individual freedom. He must now add wisdom and judgement to power. Nick Ramos Commander Whenever you're in conflict with someone, there is one factor that can make the difference between damaging your relationship and deepening it. That factor is attitude. William James

The Letters Temporary under which the Lodge was instituted were not the same as a permanent charter. Was the lodge really able to stand on its own feet financially? If so, why was it not able to pay the assessment levied for the Letters Temporary? Could the Degree Masters satisfactorily perform their duties? Certainly they had made every effort to learn their work, but had no chance to demonstrate their proficiency. In commenting upon the situation, Nat M. Washer, the first Venerable Master, in later years had this to say: "It was with fear and trepidation that the work of preparation for the conferring of the degrees from the 4th to the 14th inclusive was undertaken and completed. It was tacitly understood that our first reunion at which these degrees were to be conferred, would be reviewed and judgment rendered on the efficiency of the work by a representative to be sent by the Inspector General of the State for that purpose." Click here to register for the conferences. Good Morning Brethren! Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to join us at one of the three Scottish Rite leadership conferences in San Diego, St. Louis or Baltimore. There you will receive your instructions on membership, leadership, finance, development, and much more, to be disclosed upon your arrival. Be careful on your journey to meet us, and be sure to share this information with other like-minded Brethren who will also accept the challenge. As always, should you or any of your team be caught, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This message will self-destruct in five seconds. Good luck. Watch video

Brothers, the obligations we take as Masons are not mere words. The words of the obligations have a debt to them, a debt not just to the brothers of the craft but to the deity that each of us invoked during the obligations. So we must look again at the obligation we took and ask if we just did it so we could complete the degree. Did we say it with a true heart and understanding that our Deity accepted the obligation as a debt that each of us has to answer to on that day when we enter into that house not made with hands?
