All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins. L: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. L: Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Silence is kept for reflection. Most merciful God, C: we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. The presiding minister announces God s forgiveness. L: In the mercy of almighty God, C: Amen. The service continues with gathering song.
Gathering Song.. Built on a Rock..(vs. 1-5)..ELW #652 Built on a rock the church shall stand, even when steeples are falling; crumbled have spires in ev'ry land, bells still are chiming and calling calling the young and old to rest, calling the souls of those distressed, longing for life everlasting. Christ builds a house of living stones: we are his own habitation; he fills our hearts, his humble thrones, granting us life and salvation. Where two or three will seek his face, he in their midst will show his grace, blessings upon them bestowing. Through all the passing years, O Lord, grant that, when church bells are ringing, many may come to hear your Word, who here this promise is bringing: "I know my own, my own know me; you, not the world, my face shall see; my peace I leave with you. Amen." L: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. This is the Feast..Page 149-50 This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia. Worthy is Christ, the Lamb who was slain, whose blood set us free to be people of God. Power and riches and wisdom and strength, and honor and
blessing and glory are his. This is the feast of victory for our God. Alleluia. Sing with all of the people of God and join in the hymn of all creation: Blessing and honor and glory and might be to God and the Lamb forever. Amen. L: The cords of death entangled me; the anguish of the grave came upon me; I came to grief and sorrow. C: Then I called upon the name of the Lord: O Lord, I pray you, save my life. L: Gracious is the Lord and righteous; our God is full of compassion. C: The Lord watches over the innocent; I was brought low, and God saved me. Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me? "Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare, should your life attract or scare? Will you let me answer pray'r in you and you in me?
"Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the pris'ners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean, and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? "Will you love the you you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same? Will you use the faith you've found to reshape the world around, through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?" Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In your company I'll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I'll move and live and grow in you and you in me. The Apostles Creed ELW Page 105 I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. O Jesus, I Have Promised..(vs.1-4) ELW #810 O Jesus, I have promised to serve you to the end; remain forever near me, my master and my friend. I shall not fear the battle if you are by my side, nor wander from the pathway if you will be my guide. Oh, let me feel you near me; the world is ever near. I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear. My foes are ever near me, around me and within; but, Jesus, then draw nearer
to shield my soul from sin. Oh, let me hear you speaking in accents clear and still above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will. Now speak to reassure me, to hasten or control; now speak and make me listen, O Guardian of my soul. O Jesus, you have promised to all who follow you that where you are in glory your servant shall be too. And Jesus, I have promised to serve you to the end; oh, give me grace to follow, my master and my friend. Post Communion Prayer C: Amen. Blessing C: Amen. Sending Hymn...
