TOUGT FOR TE WEEK Time for some lock ours. Every few years, teachers have to be re-certified. They have to list the workshops, classes and special programs they have attended in their field of specialty or in teaching strategies if they want to continue teaching. This is to make sure their information is accurate and their teaching style is effective. Most teachers spend part of their summer or other vacations at meetings, accumulating these clock hours. And they are not the only ones who have to do this: plumbers, electricians, dentists, nurses, and many other professionals do the same. Even priest have to attend two institutes a year. ow about clock hours for hristians? Aren t most of us in need of some serious updating? Most adults are going through their faith journey with the instruction they received before their onfirmation. This info could be thirty or forty years old! A lot has happened in the hurch in the past 40 years. A lot has happened in our lives since we were twelve or six teen. Many people still long for the old Latin Mass, ommunion on the tongue or orpus hristi processions. Others question why the hurch is so obsessed with abortion. Still others wonder how the hurch is going to weather these never-ending scandals, the current in-fighting in Rome and especially our transformation into a third-world hurch. When will we stop closing churches and start filling pews? ow did we reach this point? Where do we go from here? As mentioned last June, our new focus is on the faith development of all of our parishioners, from the womb to the tomb. As our children return to D and our youth prepare for onfirmation, we encourage our adults to attend RIA, join our Book Discussion Group or our join hristian onversation Group. We may not need a new certificate, but we all need a faith that is based on solid, current information. ome spend a few hours learning how you can live and share your faith. It s time well spent!
