Healthcare and Catholicism Wednesday, May 16, 7:00 pm St. Mary s Cathedral, 1111 Gough St., San Francisco, Lower Level, Room A 415-614-5588. Fr. William Grogan is the Vicar for Healthcare in the Archdiocese of Chicago and also the System Director of Ethics for Presence Health, a large healthcare system centered in Chicago. A civil lawyer and ethicist, he has a master s degree from Oxford and a licentiate in sacred theology. For the past 30 years, for the Archdiocese of Chicago, he has been monitoring Catholic healthcare institutions. Fr. Grogan will address healthcare issues such as: What should the Catholic attitude toward health be? How should Alfie cases (baby in England who was on life support) be treated? Why does the Catholic Church allow surgery in most cases but not for gender change or some types of non-therapeutic plastic surgery? Should Catholics prefer medical treatment in a Catholic hospital or Catholic nursing home? Admittance is free and refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
