Page Three St. Charles Borromeo Church August 12, 2018 From the Desk of Padre José.. I have heard many people say that when they don't eat they get cranky. I have experienced this from them and from myself when I do not have a regular pattern for my meals. Our bodies tell us to nourish ourselves to continue with our daily activities. Today, we are blest to have the readings that remind us of both nourishments: physical and spiritual. Let us not forget to nourish our physical bodies with good and healthy sustenance. And at the same time, let us be mindful of what goes into our own spiritual journeys. One of the staple elements for our spiritual journey should be daily reflection of our lives. Some of the questions we may want to ask ourselves as we finish our day are: How did I treat myself today? How did I treat others? How did I bring God to my day? How did I relate to God when I failed today? How can I invite others to help me in my daily struggles? How can I make inner peace in the midst of whatever may be going on in my life? As we continue our narration of the Daily Bread from Heaven, let us be mindful to continue having that thirst and that hunger for the Lord daily in our lives. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your loved ones. Fraternally, Fr.

Page Five St. Charles Borromeo Church August 12, 2018 Safeguard the Children PLAN AHEAD FOR SAFE, FUN SUMMER TRIPS Amusement parks are great places to make memories as a family, but it s important to plan ahead to maximize fun and keep everyone safe. Go over the family rules in advance, and refresh information on the way there. Make sure that everyone follows the buddy system, with at least two people together at all times. Pick a predetermined meet-up site in the event of separations, and show children where they can go for help (information desk, park security). Keep an eye out for any adults that may approach children, and stay on top of children s locations at all times. For more tips and information https://www.parents.com/fun/vacation/theme-parks/9-ways-to-stay-safe-at-amusement-parks/. Para más información, visita https://www.parents.com/fun/vacation/theme-parks/9-ways-to-stay-safe-at-amusement-parks/. 2018 VIRTUS TRAINING & FINGERPRINTING SCHEDULE Fingerprinting - Saturday, August 18: From 11 am to 12:30 pm in the Service Center VIRTUS Training: Protecting God s Children - Saturday, September 8: 11 am to 2 pm in Msgr. If you are unable to speak to someone, please leave a message with the following information: name, phone number, your email, and session you plan to attend. Thank you. The Sisters of Notre Dame are grateful to introduce St. Charles Borromeo Parish to our mission in Buseesa, Uganda. Sr. Cristina Marie Buczkowski and Sr. Lisa Megaffin will share our story with you. In 1998, the Sisters of Notre Dame opened St. Julie Primary School, They also opened Notre Dame Academy Secondary School for girls in the Kibaale district in Uganda in 2006. Notre Dame Academy is very important since educating young women is a low priority in that area. The schools charge very low tuition, including room and board. Due to underdeveloped methods of agriculture, poor infrastructure, lack of transportation and political instability, the per capita income is very low. Nevertheless, parents are willing to make many sacrifices because the schools provide a strong moral and academic foundation, safe water, nutritious meals and health care. They believe a sound education, Catholic leadership training and the empowerment of women will enable their children to break the cycle of poverty and superstition and to become leaders on both local and national levels. The mission has grown to include a pre-school. A number of women from the area are now professed Sisters of Notre Dame and are starting their ministries. As Sisters of Notre Dame, we believe that God s goodness is expressed through human goodness. The growth of our Ugandan mission is possible because of the generosity of thousands of individuals and groups. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce you to our mission we look forward to meeting you! Learn more at www.sndca.org.

Service has a life of its own. A single act of kindness may have a long trajectory and touch those we will never meet or see. Something that we causally offer may move through a web of connection far beyond ourselves to have effects that we may have never imagined. And so each of us may have left far more behind us than we may ever know.
