July 14-15, 2018 Moses Exodus 2-4 God has a plan for our life. *We re switching up the schedule this month! The hour is broken up into FIVE parts, alternating between large and small groups: Part 1 (5-10 minutes) Small groups (5 minutes after service starts) Part 2 (15-20 minutes) Large group Part 3 (10 minutes) Game or small groups Part 4 (10-15 minutes) Large Group Part 5 (10 minutes or until the end of service) Small groups As kids arrive, give each kid a different colored dot sticker. This will determine which team they re on. Each small group will need a different color. Prepare all activity supplies before the activities start! Keep kids in small groups until their parents pick them up, while one volunteer checks kids name tags at check out. How to prepare for timing of the new lesson format: Before Large Group portions of the lesson, play the 10-second countdown timer to help draw kids attention to where they should go. There s a funny clip at the end too! There are 10-minute keynote timers during part of the lesson that requires a game and transition. How to prepare for activities in this new lesson format: Assign groups at the beginning of the hour by giving every kid a different colored sticker. Kids may return to these small groups throughout the hour, and they need to know WHERE that small group should sit.

Part 1 (Small Groups) SPLIT INTO SMALL GROUPS *Start small groups 5-10 minutes into the service. Presenter should play the 5 minute countdown video. Main Goal: Get to know the kids in your group, and have them answer a personal question about themselves. CONNECT WITH KIDS: Welcome kids and let them know you re glad they re here today. Go around the group and have each kid share: What s your name If you could do one FUN thing today, what would it be Say: Today we re reading a story from the book of Exodus. It s all the way at the beginning of the Bible! (You can look it up in a Bible and physically show them). Extra time Ask kids what the best or worst part of their week was. Supplies: None Time: 5-10 minutes Tip: As kids arrive, give each kid a different colored dot sticker. This will determine which team they re on. Each small group will need a different color. TRANSITION When 5 minutes are up and the presenter plays the 10 second countdown video, transition kids to Large Group. Say: Let s all get into one large group by skipping backwards to a spot on the carpet!

Part 2 (Large Group) GATHER IN ONE LARGE GROUP Main Goal: Introduce and discuss today s BIG IDEA: God has a plan for our life. Supplies: None Video: Zootopia / Assistant Mayor Bellwether (https://youtu.be/xnv0 AoWLMKY) God s Story / Moses (https://vimeo.com/49 018352) Time: 15 minutes *Play the 10 second countdown video to draw kids in and help them transition into large group. Click to show the KC logo slide once everyone is seated. INTRO: Welcome: Hi everybody, welcome to Kids Club. I m so happy to see you guys here! Today we re talking all about a guy named Moses, and how God had a big plan for his life! And just like He had a plan for Moses, God has a plan for our life too. Say: Let s review three important facts to set up today s story: God chose some people to be his special family, and one day the Rescuer would come from that family. Because we live in an imperfect world, they ended up being forced into slavery. They weren t free to do what they wanted to do, and they had to do really hard, tiring work all day long. It was NOT where God planned for them to be. He had a greater plan in store! Ask: Did God have a plan to rescue his family from slavery (Let kids respond.) Yes, he sure did! And he chose Moses to start that rescue plan. Say: Now Moses was just a normal guy, like all of us! He went through some difficult times, and even felt like he wasn t very important in the grand scheme of things. That s something we might all feel sometimes, right Let s watch a little movie clip right now about someone else who thinks they re not important, even though they really are! Video: Zootopia / Assistant Mayor Bellwether Ask: Why did that sheep think she was unimportant (Let kids respond.) Yeah, she didn t think she could be an important part of any plan. But was she able to help the fox and the rabbit (Let kids respond.) Yep! Moses was kind of like that sheep. He had no idea that God had a really important plan for his life! Say: We re going to watch a video and see how Moses meets God in a very unique way. As you watch, try to figure out the special job God calls Moses to do! Video: God s Story / Moses

Part 2 (Large Group cont.) GATHER IN ONE LARGE GROUP Main Goal: Understand how today s story relates to kids lives. Supplies: None Video: Zootopia / Assistant Mayor Bellwether (https://youtu.be/xnv0 AoWLMKY) God s Story / Moses (https://vimeo.com/49 018352) Time: 15 minutes (Cont.) MOSES AND THE BURNING BUSH (Continued) Ask: So what did God want Moses to do (Let kids respond.) Yep, God wanted Moses to help rescue his special family, the Israelites, out of slavery! Ask: Would you guys say that s a pretty big job to do (Let kids respond.) Yep, that s a huge job! What if God asked YOU to help rescue a whole country of people How would you feel (Let kids respond with varying answers.) Now imagine how Moses would have felt when God asked him to do that! Ask: Why do you think God asked Moses to do such a big thing, even though Moses hadn t done anything like that before (Let kids respond.) Yeah, God doesn t just ask people who are strong and brave. He calls people who are normal, and imperfect. He loves everyone no matter what their abilities are! Say: God had a plan for Moses life. He had a direction he wanted Moses to go in, and he had steps he wanted Moses to take. And God has a plan for your life too. Say: TRANSITION Let s play a game to help us understand how important it is have a plan! Everyone stand up where you are, and stay in the large group area. *Start the 10-minute timer for the next part of the lesson.

Part 3 (Game Time) GATHER IN ONE LARGE GROUP Main Goal: Play a game to help kids understand... Supplies: None Video: None Time: 10 minutes Tip: Smaller group of kids Have them compete by doing the activity multiple times, and adding in extra active elements, like running/skipping/hopping to various places in the room as part of the competition. FOUR CORNERS Tell kids that the four corners of the room are either 1, 2, 3 or 4 (don t show them which corner is which though!) An adult is going to close his/her eyes and count to ten. While he/she counts, each kid chooses a corner, and goes to it (they go randomly to whichever corner they want!) With eyes still closed, the adult will call out a corner (1, 2, 3 or 4). Every kid standing in that corner has to sit down in the middle of the room. Remember, in Round 1 kids will NOT know which corner should sit because corners haven t been labeled. Close your eyes and count to ten. (Kids will go to a corner but won t know which one they re in.) Call out a corner (1, 2, 3 or 4). Kids won t know which corner they re in, so they won t know if they should sit or not! Ask: Why are you guys sitting! (Let kids respond.) That s right, you don t know which corner is which! You don t have all the instructions, and there s no plan to go by! Now let s play, and this time I ll tell you which corner is which! This time, tell kids which corner is which, and if they re in the corner you choose, they have to sit in the middle of the room. Continue playing until only a few kids are left! The corners don t have to be just numbers! You can label each corner with the following categories. Cats, dogs, rabbits or birds Iron Man, Captain America, Wonder Woman or Spiderman Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall Basketball, soccer, kickball or dodgeball Lions, elephants, giraffes or snakes Make up your own! TRANSITION Say: Let s get back into one large group! Suggestion: Have kids scoot on their bottoms as they go find a place to sit.

Part 4 (Large Group) GATHER IN ONE LARGE GROUP *Play the 10 second countdown video to draw kids in and help them transition into large group. Main Goal: Give kids a chance to respond to what they ve heard today, and worship! GOD HAS A PLAN Say: Great job playing that game! It s a lot more fun when there s a clear plan, and you know where to go, right Well it s the same way with us. God designed us. He knows the direction we should go in, and he knows the best choices we should make. God has a plan for our life. Ask: Do you think it might ever be hard to follow the plan God has for us (Let kids respond.) Yep, it can be. Remember when Moses doubted that God could use him It can be hard to trust God, because sometimes we just want to do what WE want to do, and not what God wants. Say: Let s read our verse for this month that tells us exactly WHY we can trust God no matter what. Because even when things seem hard, God still has a plan for us, and he always knows what s best for us. Slide: Isaiah 41:10 So do not be afraid. I am with you. Do not be terrified. I am your God. I will make you strong and help you. I will hold you safe in my hands. I always do what is right. Supplies: None Video: Time: 15 minutes Tip: There are two music videos; one is a motion video and one is a non-motion video. You can choose to play both, or choose one of them to fit the atmosphere of your room, and what you think kids will respond best to. GOD HAS DIFFERENT PLANS FOR ALL OF US Say: So what might God s plan be for each of us Will it look the same for every single person (Let kids respond.) No, he has different and unique plans for all of us! (Share something unique about yourself that you believe is part of God s plan for your life. It could be something to do with your job, your family, Kids Club, etc. Use this to help kids understand what it means for God to have different things planned for each of us.) Say: Let s all take a minute to think of one specific thing that God might be asking US to do. Close your eyes, and get it in your head right now. (Give kids a few moments of silence.) Say: Okay, everybody got it I want you to ask God right now, silently, to help you do that thing. Go ahead and close your eyes, and spend a minute with God. (Give kids a few moments of silence.)

Part 4 (Large Group cont.) Supplies: None WORSHIP AND PRAYER Pray: God, you ask every one of us to do BIG things. Whatever we re thinking of in our head right now, I ask you to help us do it this week. And show us that you ll be with us no matter what. Amen! Set up worship: Let s all stand up right now and worship God with some singing and dancing! Music Video: Everything Belongs to God Music Video: Freedom Video: Music Video: Everything Belongs to God Music Video: Freedom TRANSITION Say: Now it s time to get into our small groups. Let s see if you can be the first one to your group by doing jumping jacks to get to your group! (Direct kids where to find their team color.) Time: 15 minutes (Cont.) *Dismiss kids to small groups for the rest of the hour. GATHER IN ONE LARGE GROUP Main Goal: Give kids a chance to respond to what they ve heard today, and worship! Tip: There are two music videos; one is a motion video and one is a non-motion video. You can choose to play both, or choose one of them to fit the atmosphere of your room, and what you think kids will respond best to.

Part 5 (Small Groups) SPLIT INTO SMALL GROUPS FOR THE REST OF THE HOUR. Main Goal: Discuss today s story and how it applies to kids lives through asking questions, and doing a hands-on activity. Supplies: 20 question cards/group Large sheet of tear off paper (1/group) Flame template (1/kid) Markers (1 set/group) Gluesticks/Scissors (1 set/group) Time: 10-15 minutes Tip: You can ask the review questions at the beginning of Small Group, or DURING the activity. RESPOND TO THE STORY Set a stack of 20 question cards in the middle of the group (with the question mark face up), and kids take turns drawing a card. If they get a card with a question on it, they read the question out loud, and answer it. (If a kid gets a True or False question, make sure they say the correct answer if it s false.) If they get a non-question card, they have to do the funny action it says! Make sure to collect the question cards, and return them for the next service. ACTIVITY Get a large sheet of tear off paper and draw a basic bush/tree shape (It doesn t have to be fancy! Just some branches, etc.) Give each kid a flame template. Tell them to think about one specific thing/action step that they think God wants them to do. Remind kids that even if it seems like a small thing right now, God can use it and turn it into a big thing! To help kids come up with ideas, ask them about thoughts God has given them that might be things he wants them to do. Have kids write or draw that thing on their flame template. Once they re finished, they can glue it on the bush image to make it look like it s burning! If there s time, let kids use markers to further decorate the bush and add more flames/fire, etc. EXTRA TIME Give kids maze and word-search activity sheets to work on until their parents pick them up. *Keep kids in small group until parent pickup.
