There is not much food in the box. Please consider a donation and is you do not wish to go to the fellowship hall, just leave it in the narthex and it will be picked up for the box. Those residents need to be fed all year and count on Prospect members for their monthly donations. They remain a very appreciative group of less fortunate people. Just a reminder that Prospect s Future vision/suggestion box, located in the Fellowship Hall, is open for business! This beautiful box --- a visible channel of communication --- is a symbol that the voice and participation of an inspired, equipped and unified Congregation ultimately set the tone and stage for a vibrant and vital church. We encourage and welcome all ideas and involvement! Together, let s take our church and commitment to discipleship and sharing God s grace to the next level for each other and our extended community. Let s make HIM proud! May sunshine and gladness be given, and may the dear Father prepare us on earth, for a beautiful birthday in heaven. *CALL TO WORSHIP Come, seekers of wisdom and truth, God s wisdom had called us here. Come, lovers of Christ s teachings and guidance, Christ s love has called us here Come, singers of thanksgiving and praise, the Spirit s presence has gathered us here! OPENING PRAYER Eternal God, your steadfast love endures forever. When your servant David died, you granted Solomon the wisdom to rule your people with judgment and understanding. When our own cleverness fails us, you grant us the wisdom to discern good from evil, and to understand your ways. Be with us in this time of worship, that we may seek to live our lives with wisdom and grace. Amen. *HYMN OF PRAISE O Worship the King 73 *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH 1 believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only son, Our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried, the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. TODAY S THEME Three of today s lections deal explicitly with wisdom and the benefits of wise behavior. In 1 Kings, Solomon inherits the throne of his father, David, and instead of asking God for riches, success in battle, or long life, Solomon asks God for the understanding and wisdom to lead God s people. The psalmist advises that wisdom begins with proper awe and reverence for God: fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (v. 10 NRSV). The epistle advocates wisdom and being filled with the Holy Spirit, and warns against foolish behavior, drunkenness, and depravity. And while the Gospel reading does not deal explicitly with wisdom, Jesus makes clear the wisdom of partaking of his body and blood to attain eternal life. Lectionary for next Sunday 1 Kings 8:(1,6,10-11), 22-30,41-43 Psalm 84 Ephesians 6:10-20 John 6:56-69 Lay Reader/Greeter/Volunteer Schedule 2018 Names are posted about a month in advance for your information in the bulletin, which should give you plenty of time to find a substitute if need be.
