Lifelines 12819 160th Avenue Southeast Renton, Washington 98059 (425) 226-2871 www.lollc.org April 2012 A Message from Pastor Reiten.... And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. (Isaiah 25:7) i thank You God for most this amazing day: for the leaping greenly spirits of trees and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything which is natural which is infinite which is yes (i who have died am alive again today, and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay great happening illimitably earth) how should tasting touching hearing seeing breathing any--lifted from the no of all nothing--human merely being doubt unimaginable You? (now the ears of my ears awake and now the eyes of my eyes are opened) ( E.E. Cummings) I memorized this poem one day when, for the first time in a long time, Easter really FELT like Easter to me. For way too long before that, it was like I had been wandering alone in a world where God s gifts were not clear to me where I could say and hope that God was good, but just couldn t feel it. During that barren time I had continued working and worshiping with my local congregation, but it was like I was seeing and hearing everything through a thick veil or like there was a dimmer switch on my own ears and eyes. And while I was still wandering in that fog when God seemed so far away that He might be just a dream the Holy Spirit moved me to walk through the doors at Gift of Grace Lutheran Church in Seattle. And during the simple evening worship service, the ears of my ears awakened and the eyes of my eyes were opened! What happened? 1) the pastor proclaimed boldly that Jesus was Savior for me the very me sitting there with the dimmer switch on my eyes and ears the very me stuck behind that veil. 2) the small group of people welcomed me with genuine warmth asked me questions and listened to the answers. It was a rainy evening in Advent but Easter Glory burst through the tangled veil and engulfed me! The miracle was not that I felt the Easter glory for myself for the first time in years. The miracle was and is that WE LIVE in Easter glory every day whether we feel it or not. I pray that Easter Joy will be yours now. That the ears of your ears awake and the eyes of your eyes are opened. And I pray that God will use Lord of Life Lutheran Church to make Easter joy real and true in the lives of many who feel that they have died so that, in Christ, they may be Alive Again Today! Pastor Kari

Midweek Lunch The next weekday lunch for 2012 will be held in the Fellowship Hall on Tuesday, April 3rd. Lunch is served on the first Tuesday of each month at noon. Anyone who is available at lunch time on Tuesday is welcome to join in the food and fun. The food is provided on a rotating basis by the attendees. Lord of Life Scholarship forms are available on the bulletin board in the narthex and in the church office for high school seniors and continuing college students for the 2012-2013 school year. Church scholarships have helped numerous Lord of Life Lutheran Church young people further their education since the program was initiated in the 1980's. Ten students received awards last year with a total amount of $4,800 awarded. April Benevolence of the Month is the scholarship fund, even though contributions are made all year round. In addition, Lord of Life members can sign up for the e-scrip program providing money for the fund. Information for that program is also on the bulletin board.
