COMMANDER S MESSAGE As always things slow down after the first of the new year. We did attend the Mid-Winter Conference in Albany on January 19-21 and will report back to the membership this month. As we enter the month of February we have been busy with the plans for our new LED sign we plan to dedicate on Memorial Day. Our current sign out front of the Post is in very bad shape and in dire need of replacement. With the technology that is available today, LED is the best choice, but that comes at a cost. As reported later in this newsletter we need a lot of help to defray some of the total cost that is needed to complete the installation of the sign. If you haven t made a donation as yet please consider helping your Post. Details of all the advantages of our new sign are listed in the appeal flyer in this newsletter. We are accepting any donations until Memorial Day. We thank you for your consideration in this matter. The Sunday Breakfast continues to be going well and our next breakfast is scheduled for February 18th. With April around the corner, now is the time to think of elections and any office that you may want to seek. Letters of intent to run for office will be accepted until the April 18th membership meeting. You can be nominated from the floor at this meeting but you must be present to accept the nomination. Any Legion member in good standing may run for office. For the Good of the Legion, Rand Kennedy, Post Commander AUXILIARY NEWS The next meeting of the Auxiliary will be on Tuesday, February 6th starting at 6:30 PM. We would love to have some new faces attend our meetings and bring new ideas for our fundraisers to help us support our veterans. We are also looking for projects for our youths and community. Please come and share your ideas at our meeting. Remember the 2018 membership cards are in and you can pay your dues anytime. Dues remain the same this year at $25.00. They can be sent to Janice Hurley at 1904 Redfield Ave, Utica, NY 13502 or dropped off at the Post in the Auxiliary mail box located in the Lounge. Any questions call Janice @ 315-735-2366. Talk with friends and relatives and encourage them join our membership. In December we adopted a veteran and his 2 children. They were extremely grateful for all that we did to make their Christmas memorable. The Oneida County Auxiliary Meeting will be Saturday, February 17 from 11:30 AM-3:00 PM. We need volunteers to help with the meeting to make it a success. We encourage our members to attend. If you would like to attend and volunteer please call Monica Lawendrowski at 315-723-0504. Ladies please let us know if any Auxiliary members are sick or in nursing homes. Please contact Mary Rogalski @ 315-797-9250 with any information. The New Hartford Auxiliary Unit 1376 would like to welcome the following new members to our Unit. Please Welcome: ELLEN VALERIANO and WENDY O TOOLE. NEW HARTFORD AMERICAN LEGION NEW LED SIGN APPEAL FUND UPDATE MONTHLY HUMOR $32,000 $15,300 Your sweetie says, 'Let's go upstairs and make love,' and you answer, 'Pick one; I can't do both!' Your friends compliment you on your new alligator shoes and you're barefoot. A sexy babe catches your fancy and your pacemaker opens the garage door, 'OLD' I S WHEN... Going braless pulls all the wrinkles out of your face. You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go along. You are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by the police 'Getting a little action' means you don't need to take any fiber today. 'Getting lucky' means you find your car in the parking lot. An 'all-nighter' means not getting up to use the bathroom. AND You are not sure these are jokes? Our Appeal Fund Drive for our new LED Sign that will be erected in front of our Post is still on going. So far we have raised $15,300 or 47% of our goal of $32,000. Of the $15,300 we have raised to date, $12,600 is what the Post has put in to start the construction on the sign. We really need your help with this fund drive. If you have not committed to a donation, please reconsider and help us meet our goal. We plan on dedicating our new sign on Memorial Day 2018. Anyone making a donation of $50.00 or more will receive a beautiful 3 x 5 ft. American Flag compliments of our friends at Adirondack Bank. We will continue to receive donations until Memorial Day. Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated. For those who have made a donation we THANK YOU!! Checks can be made payable to New Hartford American Legion Post 1376. Please mail or drop off your donation to New Hartford American Legion, 8616 Clinton St. New Hartford, NY 13413. Any questions please contact TERRY TESAK @ (315) 794-7211. There are many benefits that go with the purchase of the new sign for our Post and the community that we serve. Please read the flyer on the next page for details.
