Buckhorn Sat. 4: to 4:30 pm Please come and receive the love and forgiveness of Christ our Lord. DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM EXTRA PRAYERS? Please call the office or use an envelope from the back of the church marked Mass Intentions and drop it in the Sunday collection basket. HOLY MASS is prayerful gift for all occasions- birthday, wedding anniversary, death anniversary, for thanksgiving, good health, conversion, etc. Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you (Jn. 6:53). The Lord Jesus has just added a new gravity to His presentation on the Eucharist. He had already said that it is His flesh and causes one to live forever. People questioned how this could possibly be. Here was His opportunity to back down, to avoid losing followers because His message was hard to accept. But no, He not only didn t make it easier, He made it sound more ominous. He seems to be saying this is a make-it-or-break-it issue. (Next week we ll hear how some gave up.) The Body and Blood of the Lord is the source of life, without which we aren t really alive. How sensitive to this are we? Do we even know what it is to be alive? Perhaps we who receive the Eucharist worthily and frequently don t really know what it is to be dead, seeing as we re so used to being alive. But what about those who don t think it s really important to celebrate and receive the Eucharist? The Lord has simply ignored their complaints, and has effectively said that His Body and Blood are not optional. Of course, we can t be responsible for the faith journey of others (except our children). Let us, then, for our own life, always seek to draw closer and closer to the Lord in His abiding Real Presence. Holy Father s Prayer Intentions for August 2018 Universal The Treasure of Families That any farreaching decisions of economists and politicians may protect the family as one of the treasures of humanity. Gospel Reflection 10:00 am Thursday. We reflect, discuss and meditate on the weekend gospel passage to prepare us to enter deeper into the Sacred Mystery of Christ. HOLY LEAGUE OF NATIONS Pray the Rosary for our Country and our World The Legion of Mary is inviting all our parish and our summer visitors to join in a mighty effort to regain God s authority over our country and our world. An international movement is forming under the title Holy League of Nations, inviting Catholics in every country to unite in prayer for these worthy intentions. Visit their website at www.holyleagueofnations.com This has the encouragement of the Diocese of Peterborough. Our concentrated prayer is requested for an extended novena, beginning on the Feast of the Assumption (August 15) until the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7 th ). Alone, in families or groups, everyone is encouraged to say the Rosary every day during this period for our country and our world. To assist in this matter, we will pray the Rosary together before Saturday 7:00pm mass and Sunday mornings at 9:30 (i.e. before the 10:00 Mass) for those who are able to attend. We will announce later a public conclusion to this effort with an event on Sunday, October 7 th. Pray for Canada and our world. Email SCAM ALERT Please be aware that a fake email is going around.
