ST. PIUS V CHURCH Dear Parishioners, One of the greatest joys for student brothers is to leave the house of studies in Washington, DC and venture out to different Dominican ministries during the summer months. Once ordained a deacon, every brother knows he will have his deacon summer at one of our parishes places where he can spend the summer helping out the pastor and getting comfortable in the pulpit. It's been my pleasure to serve as a deacon over the past 10 weeks at St. Pius V. Having the daily opportunities to preach at Mass, visit the sick, work with the young adult and youth groups, and get to know a number of the faithful at the parish has been a tremendous blessing. It's always exciting stepping into a new place for the summer. What will it be like? How will the people respond? Will I be able to fit in? I can say with a glad heart that being able to spend time with the faithful parishioners of the parish has been a tremendous grace in my life. Every one is striving to get to heaven, and it's humbling to be able to play a little role in that, in whatever way I can. Like so many other Dominican parishes, there are always a core group of people who help to keep the parish running, without which many things would fall through! I want to thank everyone who actively contributes to the parish in seen and unseen ways for your example of generosity and fidelity. I am always edified, encouraged, and challenged to contribute more when I see the examples of cheerful givers! In turn, I want to encourage others in the parish to consider ways in which they can continue to make St. Pius V a more vibrant community. Be creative with the gifts you have! Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for the kindness they have shown me over the course of the summer, and that you all can be assured of my continued prayers. It's my hope that I can make my way back to Providence in the future to give back to St. Pius V as a priest. It would be a joy to come back, preach, and celebrate Mass for you all! In Christ and St. Dominic, Br. Michael PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED!!! Earlier this week we launched our new and much improved website! Please visit us at www.stpiusvchurch.org. We will be making further improvements as we continue the roll out. In the meantime, enjoy the updated content. Special thanks go to Jason DeSilva and Br. Aquinas Beale for their work on the web project. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/faith-direct-egiving-forchurches/id1004593436?1s=1&mt=8 Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details? id=com.app_faithdirect.layout If you have any questions or need any assistance, please contact 866-507-8757 or email info@faithdirect.net. My Apologies, I would like to take this opportunity to say how sorry I am for the way I imposed a post-mass prayer on the folks lingering in church after the 10:00 a.m. Mass last Sunday. It was out of concern that those who were offering their quiet prayers of thanksgiving were having a hard time doing so. My response to that was rash and unpastoral. I am sorry and ask the forgiveness of any and all I may have offended. Your pastor (and fellow sinner), Fr. Augustine, O.P. The community of St. Pius V extends its deepest sympathy, prayers, and support to the families of Robert W. Decedric, Catherine Merino, and George Petitto (7/5/15) who passed away.
