Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time September 7, 2014 Speaking Out in Love In the final verses of today s Gospel reading Jesus says that when two or three are gathered in his name, there am I in the midst of them (Matthew 18:20). So we understand that fraternal correction is always undertaken in the presence of Jesus Christ. Likewise, encouraging the good in others is not only the right thing for us to do, it is a necessity. The LORD tells the prophet Ezekiel that if he does not speak out to dissuade a person from evil, then he too will be held responsible. We live in a do your own thing age where moral objectivity is often ignored. Clearly when the message we share with others is rooted in love, our motives cannot ever be misinterpreted. As Saint Paul writes, Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law (Romans 13:10). Copyright J. S. Paluch Co. Matthew 18:15-20 CATECHETICAL SUNDAY Catechetical Sunday, which will be September 14, is a celebration of catechists and all teachers of the Catholic faith. This years series focuses on the theme "Teaching About God's Gift of Forgiveness." Those whom the community has designated to serve as catechists will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Catechetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith. Christians throughout Pittsburgh are invited to take part in the national 40 Days for Life Campaign. The mission of 40 Days for Life is to unite the Body of Christ in the spiritual battle to end abortion. Join us for 40 days of prayer and fasting, a peaceful vigil held every day from 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. in front of the Planned Parenthood at 933 Liberty Ave., and a community outreach. Holy Sepulcher is signed up to participate on Friday, October 31 from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Please call Gretchen Cararie at 724-898-2529 for details. To find out more about 40 Days for Life, and to sign up to receive the daily devotional prayers via email, go to www.40daysforlife.com/pittsburgh or contact Nikki Bruni at 412-926-9413 or nbruni@40daysforlifepgh.com. If you have a church related announcement you would like the cantors to announce during Mass, please email the info to Madlyn DeRito, Music Director, at deritoma@hotmail.com. (All announcements MUST be approved by Father Bob.) BISHOP S EDUCATION FUND COLLECTION The second collection next week, September 13 and 14, will be for the Bishop s Education Fund. Many students in our diocese would like to benefit from a Catholic school education, but a number of those students need financial assistance. The Bishop s Education Fund makes that assistance available. Please be as generous as possible. Thank you for your continued support of Catholic education. Annual Guide Book & Directory The time is approaching to renew and update our yearly Guide Book and Directory. BUSINESS ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY Guide Book Publishing will be publishing a Guide Book & Directory for our congregation that will be updated and delivered directly to your homes. The book is the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of our parish. The book is being provided at no cost to our parish! Local businesses are being solicited to advertise in the book. If you own or manage a business and would like to find out about advertising in our book, please call the parish office at 724-586-7610 to leave your contact information so a rep can contact you with more details. Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It will pay to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory. UPDATE YOUR MEMBER INFORMATION Does our church database have YOUR family membership record correct? It is time for us to update our database with any changes, additions or deletions that may have occurred in your family over the past year. Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all your children still at home or are they living on their own? If you have not already informed the church office about changes to your record, please do so to ensure your information in the Guide Book & Directory will be correct. Sept. 13, 6:00 pm L. Fey, C.
