KONA BAPTIST CHURCH A Church With A Message TERM: 2018 / Issue 4 / Date: April APRIL 2018 NEWSLETTER Easter Start Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. John 20:27 One detail in the Easter story is intriguing. Why did Jesus keep the scars from His crucifixion? Presumably He could have had any resurrected body He wanted, and yet He chose one identifiable mainly by scars that could be seen and touched. Why? The story of Easter would be incomplete without those scars on the hands, feet, and the side of Jesus. Human beings dream of pearly straight teeth and wrinkle-free skin and ideal body shapes. We dream of an unnatural state: the perfect body. But for Jesus, being confined in a skeleton and human skin was the unnatural state. The scars are a permanent reminder of His days of confinement and suffering on our planet. From the perspective of heaven, those scars represent the most horrible event that has ever happened in the history of the universe. Even that event, though, turned into a memory. Because of Easter, we can hope that the tears we shed, the struggles we endure, the emotional pain, the heartache over lost friends and loved ones all these will become memories, like Jesus scars. Scars never completely go away, but neither do they hurt any longer. Someday we will have re-created bodies and a re-created heaven and earth (Revelations 21:4). We will have a new start, an Easter start. Christ s resurrection is the guarantee of our own. KONA BAPTIST CHURCH MISSION Kona Baptist Church is a Bible teaching, Bible preaching Church. We are a Southern Baptist congregation, ministering to the spiritual needs of the Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Kealakekua and surrounding areas of the Big Island of Hawaii. We seek to glorify God by reaching out to people with the love of Christ and the Good News, ministering to the needs of the Church, providing opportunities for people to grow in Christ, encouraging and prompting interdependent relationships with one another, glorifying God s presence together.

WHO IS THIS? Blessed is the king who come in the name of the Lord! Luke 19:38 FOOD FOR THOUGHT Imagine standing shoulder to shoulder with onlookers by a dirt road. The woman behind you is on her tiptoes, trying to see who is coming. In the distance, you glimpse a man riding a donkey. As He approaches, people toss their coats onto the road. Suddenly, you hear a tree crack behind you. A man is cutting down palm branches, and people are spreading them out ahead of the donkey. Jesus followers zealously honored Him as He entered Jerusalem a few days before His crucifixion. The multitude rejoiced and praised God for all the miracles they had seen (Luke 19:37). Jesus devotees surrounding Him, calling out, Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! (v.38). Their enthusiastic honor affected the people of Jerusalem. When Jesus finally arrived, the whole city was stirred and asked, Who is this? (Matthew 21:10). Today, people are still curious about Jesus. Although we can t pave His way with palm branches or shout praises to Him in person, we can still honor Him. We can discuss His remarkable works, assist people in need, patiently bear insults, and love each other deeply. Then we must be ready to answer the onlookers who ask, Who is Jesus? We honor God s name when we live like His children. A LITTLE HUMOR
