Catholic Education: Part 5 O ur schools are communities of faith, where our faith is lived, and professed, and talked about. Just think of how difficult it would be to educate and form children if you could make no real reference to God, or to Jesus who loves them, and gave His life for them, and came to save them, and forgives their sins, and redeems them. Just think of how difficult it would be if you could not tell children that Jesus walks with them, knows them, and loves them and so much more. I have seen children and parents, who were not Catholic, come to faith through being in a Catholic school. On any bad day, I go out into the cafeteria at lunch time, and there will always be a few who will come running over to hug me, and tell me about their puppies, and what they had for supper, and what they did last night. Children renew us, and keep us young, and hopeful, and happy, and believing in the future. Catholic schools build up the life of the parish life, energy, and commitment. The parents get involved, do things, and often carry the parish forward. They are often the first ones there, and the last to go. They oversee the Auction, and the Carnival, and so much more. In Catholic schools, you have the opportunity to impact and form not just the lives of the children, but of the parents and families as well. If a school pastor has a heart attack, no one will be surprised. Everyone knows he works too hard, and so he is more susceptible to a heart attack. But, at least, it will be a heart attack worth having! A high percentage of pastors, principals, and teachers are products of Catholic schools. Catholic schools are very important they are essential to the life of the Church, and to the life of society. We can hardly imagine today the United States landscape without Catholic schools. A Catholic education is an investment in eternity. Your new car will be old in a year. The child you educate in a Catholic school is immortal. This education will never have to be replaced. It will last forever. The school in which you help to educate a child is in business with God for that child. So, we are in business with God for your children. It s an investment that you will never regret. May God reward your generosity and your goodness. Fr. Jose Thomas

Bible Study Starts Tuesday September 11th For this fall, we have two comprehensive Bible Studies to be held at three different times! The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation, starts over from the beginning, as many of you requested. This acclaimed study by Jeff Cavins helps you learn the overarching story of God s plan of salvation, and gives you an understanding of how people, places, events, and themes of Scripture fit together. This course, facilitated by Ken Magnan, is perfect for those who have never studied the Bible, recent converts to Catholicism, and Bible-study veterans. The focus is on 14 narrative books of the Bible. Format: Read Bible at home; 50-minute DVD in class; brief discussion. Term: 8 consecutive Tuesdays, September 11th through October 30th. Time: Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11:30 a.m., in the RCIA Room across from the St. Clare Chapel, OR: Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Attend one or the other. Registration: Simply show up for class on September 11th! Materials strongly recommended: Same text for three seasonal, eight-session courses. Call Ascension Press at 1-800-376-0520, Ext. 1341, and ask for The Bible Timeline: The Story of Salvation Study Set (for participants/facilitators; contains timeline) $34.95. Questions? Call Vergie Ries at (541) 797-6322. New Study: Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance. This study, facilitated by Molly Valenti, is a natural complement to Bible Timeline. A great inheritance awaits us as sons and daughters, adopted fully into the family of God. Paul s letter to the Ephesians reveals many remarkable gifts we Christians receive through the Church. It conveys the nature of the Church a body, a household, a mystery, a communion, a bride, an army. It reveals how God s great love can transform our lives if we choose. Time: Tuesday afternoons 1 to 2:30 p.m., in the RCIA Room across from the St. Clare Chapel. Format, Term, Registration, Questions: Same as above. Materials recommended: Call Ascension Press at 1-800-376-0520, Ext 1341; ask for Ephesians: Discover Your Inheritance (for participants/facilitators) $20.
