Persistent Prayer 22 nd Sunday after Pentecost October 15 & 16, 2016
Ebenezer Lutheran Church Port Hudson The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod 9100 Highway YY Leslie, Missouri Parsonage 573-459-6432 Church 573-459-6431 Rev. William F. Zastrow, Pastor Mary Sprick, Secretary ebenezerlutheran@hotmail.com ebenezerlutheranchurch.wordpress.com AS WE GATHER: Jacob wrestled with God; Paul urged Timothy to be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry (2 Timothy 4:5), and Jesus speaks of the widow who kept on petitioning the unjust judge for justice. These examples from the Scriptures all point to one thing: persistence keeping-on-keeping-on even in the face of obstacles, difficulties, and suffering. However, Jesus reminds us of two important truths: heroism and willpower accomplish nothing of value under the reign of God, and the God we persist in petitioning is no unjust and uncaring judge, but rather our gracious, loving Father who always delights to hear and answer the prayers of His people! PRAYER BEFORE WORSHIP: O Lord, almighty and everlasting God, You have commanded us to pray and have promised to hear us. Mercifully grant that Your Holy Spirit may direct and govern our hearts in all things that we may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of Your name; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. THE DIVINE SERVICE DIVINE SERVICE I, page 136 HYMNS: 516, 433, 241, 246, 240, 247 2

Hurricane Matthew: LCMS disaster responders continue to assess the capacity to provide additional aid for hurricanebattered Haiti while also determining the overall impact of Hurricane Matthew, as it makes its way up the U.S. southeastern coastline. Thanks to compassionate people in the LCMS who respond generously in the wake of disasters, and using funds already on hand for disaster response work, two aircraft were chartered to airdrop some 60,000 packaged meals and supplies to the people in the hardest-hit areas of Haiti. On Oct. 6, LCMS leaders approved a $10,000 grant to Ministry in Mission, an LCMS Recognized Service Organization (RSO) coordinating this vital airdrop. Another 60,000 meals were provided for by other partner organizations. We are looking to work through area RSOs most capable of facilitating additional aid to Haiti victims in the form of providing food and clean water, Lutheran spiritual care and also tin roofs for some 280,000 victims whose homes were ravaged by fierce winds, said LCMS Disaster Response Director Rev. Ross Johnson. Please see bulletin Insert to see how you can help in this time of great need. Please read more at LCMS.org 3
