Music of the Mass Mass for Five Voices William Byrd (1540-1623) O Sacrum Convivium- Crisobal de Morales (1500 1553) For further information about the music at today s mass, please take a copy of our music bulletin, High Notes, High Church, which can be found in the corridor and in St Cross Hall. Introit - Sung by the Choir The Lord was my refuge and upholder, and he brought me forth into a place of liberty: he delivered me, because he delighted in me. I will love thee, O Lord my strength: The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my Saviour. Entrance Hymn - Sung by Praise, my soul, the King of heaven Hymnal 436 Music: John Goss 1800-80 Words: H. F. Lyte 1793-1847 THE ORDER OF MASS In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit.

Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lord Jesus Christ said: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord; and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. This is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Lord have mercy upon us, and write all these Thy laws in our hearts, we beseech Thee. Kyrie Eleison - Sung by the Choir Κyrie Eleison Christe Eleison Kyrie Eleison Lord, have mercy Christ, have mercy Lord, have mercy Gloria in Excelsis - Sung by

Collect for the First Sunday after Trinity

Collect for the Second Sunday After Trinity O Lord, who never failest to help and govern them whom thou dost bring up in thy steadfast fear and love: Keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence, and make us to have a perpetual fearand love of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Old Testament Lesson Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abramwas seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. Genesis 12 v. 1-4

Gradual Psalm WHEN I was in trouble I called upon the Lord : (-) and he heard me. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips : and from a deceitful_tongue. What reward shall be given or done unto thee, thou false tongue : even mighty and sharp arrows, with hot burning coals. Woe is me, that I am constrained to dwell with Mesech : and to have my habitation among the tents of Kedar. My soul hath long dwelt among them : that are enemies unto_peace. I labour for peace, but when I speak unto them thereof : they make them ready to battle. Ps. 120 New Testament Lesson Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world s good, and seeth his

brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. 1 John 3 v. 13-end Gospel Acclamation O ponder thou my words O Lord: Consider my meditation.

The Gospel The Lord be with you: And with thy spirit. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Luke: Glory be to thee, O Lord. A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: and sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come. So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper. Luke 14 v. 16-24 This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Sermon The Great Invitation The Rev d Philip Corbett Nicene Creed - Sung by

Intercessions The Sub-deacon leads the congregation in the intercessions for the Church and the world. The response to each bidding is Hear our prayer. Confession The Celebrant invites the people to confess their sins, kneeling: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, maker of all things, judge of all men: we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us; the burden of them is intolerable. Have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ s sake, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Bishop pronounces the Absolution to which all respond: Amen. The Peace God is love and those who live in love live in God and God lives in them. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with thy spirit. Offertory Sentence - Sung by the Choir Turn thee, O Lord, and deliver my soul: O save me for thy mercies sake.

Offertory Hymn - Sung by We hail thy presence glorious Hymnal 310 Music: Michael Haydn (1737-1806) Words: Richard Parsons (1882-1948) Prayer over the Gifts Pray, brethren, that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable unto God, the Father almighty: May the Lord accept the sacrifice at thy hands, for the praise and glory of his Name, for our good and the good of all his holy Church. The Celebrant prays a Collect. reply: Amen The Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you. And with thy spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up unto the Lord. Let us give thanks unto our Lord God. Hosanna in Excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini: Hosanna in Excelsis. Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts, Heaven and earth are full of thy glory. Glory be to thee O Lord most high. Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi: Miserere nobis. Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi: Dona nobis pacem. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: grant us thy peace.

Invitation to Communion Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him that taketh away the sins of the world: blessed are those who are called to the supper of the Lamb. Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my soul shall be healed.
