MONDAY SCHOOL For Monday School on February 15 at 7:00 PM, there has been a change in our programming on addiction. Mrs. Chico Ficerai who is currently presenting a 12 week seminar called "Six Steps to Sanity" at Saints John and Paul, will do an overview of this very helpful course. This is a program she has found helpful in her own life in dealing with her son's addiction. It promises to be a powerful presentation. All parents and grandparents are invited. Curious about how addiction can affect the addict and everyone who loves him or her? Come and hear from brave families who have struggled with the pain of addiction on February 22 for Monday School. Discussion and suggestions about outreach will follow. LENTEN RESOURCES The cold still surrounds us even as the church invites us to prepare for Spring. New Life and Easter. We turn toward our 40 day period - the season of Lent. It begins on Feb. 10 with Ash Wednesday. Prepare with your family by taking home one or more of our Lenten resources. Make the season a time of special prayer with one of the great reflection booklets. Select something from the lobby table to share with a friend or send to that young person in college. Who knows what might happen in our world if we invite someone to walk the way. Peace begins with each one of us! Let s pray especially during this year of Mercy that we may truly celebrate the Paschal Mystery this Easter, March 27! WORLD MARRIAGE DAY Today the Diocese of Pittsburgh celebrates the vocation of married love. Please bless with your prayers all those who live this vocation, encourage this vocation and/or counsel and support this vocation. It is a firm foundation for building faith and family. GOOD SHEPHERD CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SEHPHERD INTERCESSION AND FAMILY MASSES Family Masses are this Wednesday, (Ash Weds.) Feb. 10 at 4:30 & 6:30 pm. They are anticipating the Rite of Election on Sunday, February 14 at St. Paul Cathedral. Before they go, on Sunday, Feb 14, at the 11:30 am Mass, we, the SJN parish, will send them to the Bishop and this celebration with our special prayers and blessing. SPIRITUAL Have you ever wondered why the music that we sing during the Eucharistic prayers changes? There are hundreds upon hundreds of mass settings that have been written by various composers and even Directors of Music at some parishes (not this Director of Music yet.). The Mass Setting includes what we sing at communion, the Holy Holy, Memorial Acclamations (When We Eat this Bread, etc.), Amen, and Lamb of God, and also includes the Penitential Rites (Lord Have Mercy), the Gloria, and the Alleluia. I like to change the mass setting when we ve entered a new season of the church year, for example, we sang Missa Emmanuel (which is based on O Come, O Come Emmanuel) throughout Advent, and we sang the Mass of Creation throughout Ordinary Time between Christmas and the start of Lent. A lot of the settings we sing can be found in our hymnal, in the pages after the psalms. Check them out sometime! Your Director of Music, Jessica Bucci Do you have a question?
