NEW BEGINNINGS AND PROJECTS FOR SEPTEMBER AND ONWARDS IN OUR PARISH AND THE DIOCESE Last week, we reflected on how this time of the year is very much about beginnings and endings. This is true in so many ways, not least here in our parish. This month we will be commencing several new projects both in the parish and in the Diocese. I would like to use the from pastor s desk article this week just to give some information about these upcoming projects As has been mentioned over the last few months, we will be launching the Diocesan-wide Reigniting our Faith campaign. Yes, this campaign is basically about fundraising; but it is not really the usual capital campaign that we have had in the past. Instead, the project has several purposes. First of all, as the title implies, it is about refreshing and renewing the life of each parish in the Diocese. The focus is very much on renewing our sense of being disciples of Jesus, but also of being disciple-makers; that is of encouraging others to come to Christ. The health and future of all our parish communities depends very much on this sense of discipleship and disciple-making. As Bishop Scharfenberger has said, the campaign is to help us move from maintenance to mission and to plan now for our future. For more details see: https://reignitingourfaith.org/ Of course, to do all this, we also need to have funds and this is where the capital campaign comes in. Each parish is asked to look at what might need to be done to help the future of the parish both in terms of the buildings, but also of projects that will help us grow in our relationship with the Lord and that will bring others to do the same. An image of the church as a building might help here. The church or a parish is indeed a physical building or buildings: what we might call the solid or material stones. If these begin to fail or crumble, then we are in trouble! However, the parish is also made up of people: what we might call the living stones. Again, if these stones are crumbling or missing, then we are also in trouble perhaps even more so than with the material stones! of things we might do to build up those material and living stones. I would like to thank in advance, all those who have agreed to help with the project and also for all the usual generosity of our parish community in supporting financially this project. Another project that is nearing completion, but in a way also beginning is our Perpetual Adoration Chapel. This is an adventure involving not just our parish, but parishes from both Columbia and Green counties. The work on making the chapel, as well as renovating the confessionals is well underway and nearing completion. This really concludes a phase of the project and so now we can begin this final phase. A few months ago, we asked people to register their support and interest in committing an hour, once a week, to be in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel (that is to be an adorer ). This weekend, we have arrived at the time for people to make that commitment and to sign-up. We welcome the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement who are helping us focus on this with a mini-retreat. Finally, we are just a few weeks away from the Hearts Aflame, Diocesan Eucharistic Congress, that will be taking place at the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville. Please do keep this wonderful gathering in your prayers. You can check on all that will be happening by visiting the Diocesan website:https://www.rcda.org/offices/prayer-andworship/hearts-aflame There are also brochures available to give some information. So far, over a thousand people have signed up to go from all over the Diocese and so it will be quite a gathering. It will be a busy, but exciting few months for us. May the Lord continue to bless us and our family and friends and may these next months be a time of joy, growth and renewal for all of us! God bless. Father Anthony As the next few months come, you will be hearing much more about this exciting and vital project. There will be much more information about what sort

ADORER SIGN-UP WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 8 & 9 Dear friends in Christ, We are excited to announce that on the weekend of September 8 and 9, Catholics in Columbia and Greene counties will be able to formally sign up for an hour of Eucharistic Adoration in the Our Lady of Victory Adoration Chapel at St. Mary's Church, Hudson. Sign-up forms will be available in your pews and will be collected immediately after each Mass that weekend. You may choose from any hour of any day or night, as many hours as you wish, according to your own schedule and convenience. Remember that whatever time and day you choose, it remains the same each week, and that a substitute list will be maintained. You may sign up for an hour as an individual, as a couple, or with family or friends. We especially make an appeal to men and married couples to consider adoring during the latenight hours or overnight. You'll then be contacted by a member of the Chapel Management Team to confirm your day and time, and will receive advance training to ensure a reverent and secure environment. The Chapel accommodations will ensure that you'll be comfortable and at peace as you sit with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The Chapel is set to open on October 19, the Feast of the North American Martyrs. We are aware of the busy schedule you have and the commitments that life places on you. By saying "Yes" to Him, you join the line of people that stretches through the centuries, from the stable in Bethlehem in the company of the angels, shepherds, and Magi through all history to this day. This mystical union of ages and adoring souls has sustained the very heart of the Church - even - and especially - through its darkest times. What a powerful gift this Chapel is for each one of us! Perpetual Adoration will not only strengthen and heal us, but also our priests, parish families, our communities, and the entire suffering world. For such a commitment, the graces and blessings that will be bestowed on you and your loved ones will be abundant in this life and beyond measure in the next. May God bless you, and may our Most Holy Mother, Mary, draw you ever closer to Her Son in His Real Presence in the Eucharist. Thank you for answering His call, Columbia-Greene Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Committee Our Lady of Victory Chapel 429 E.
