This joy stands in sharp contrast to the dour recriminations of the scribes and Pharisees who see Jesus welcoming sinners and eating with them. At the time Luke s gospel was written, some were indignant at the rejoicing which accompanied the entry of the Gentiles into the household of the Church. Some, like the older brother, balked at crossing the threshold of a house open to sinners. The book of Acts, also written by Luke, confirms this. The fifteenth chapter of Luke reminds us that ostracism and intolerance, even when motivated by unquestionable fervor, are contrary to the gospel. THOUGHT QUESTIONS FOR SUNDAY'S READINGS Luke 15:1-32 Who among your family and friends would you consider "lost" in their relationship with God? Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14 When do you offer prayers of intercession? 1 Timothy 1:12-17 What does Paul's life story tell us about God? Sign up for Online Giving at www.holysepulcher.org. (Mobile app also available.) LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK The challenge we face today is to love as God loves. Often, our way of loving differs greatly from God's way. Our way of loving can be burdened with demands and expectations. When we love, we sometimes seek love in return. Sometimes we allow our weaknesses and needs to color how we love or taint love with conditions. Our goal is to love unconditionally with boundless mercy.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2016 TWENTY FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PAGE 3 40 DAYS FOR LIFE What is 40 Days for Life? A peaceful prayer vigil outside of Planned Parenthood abortion clinic, where we pray that women may change their minds about abortion. This campaign is held in almost 350 cities, in all 50 states, as well as 24 other countries. Last year, at least 14 babies were saved during 40 Days for Life in Pittsburgh alone when mothers changed their minds about having an abortion as they saw us praying outside the doors of Planned Parenthood on Liberty Ave. Holy Sepulcher signed up to pray in Pittsburgh on Friday, Sept. 30 from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm. Can you join us this year? Carpooling is available. For more information contact Gretchen Cararie at 724-898-2529 or gcararie@zoominternet.net or Debbie Busin at 724-510-8670 or crazydebb@yahoo.com. HOLY SEPULCHER S WOMEN S FELOWSHIP For this week s session, Thursday, September 15, the Holy Sepulcher Women s Fellowship group will attend the Discovering Christ information session in the Cafeteria from 7:00-8:00 pm. The decision to attend to the Discovering Christ info session was discussed as a group at the last fellowship session. This is a great opportunity to bring our faith alive in fellowship. LADIES OF CHARITY The next general meeting of the Ladies of Charity will be on Mon., Sept. 19 at 7:00 pm in the YYAC. All members, including those wishing to join are welcome. PLEASE BRING a Halloween treat to send to the residents of Colonial Gardens (pudding packs, Jell-o cups, packaged crackers or cookies, etc.) We will be explaining our Holiday Package fundraiser and distributing tickets to the members. There will also be an announcement about our Afternoon of Reflection and the Thanksgiving Blood Drive. HELP KIDS TO GET A CATHOLIC EDUCATION Each year, there are qualified students whose families cannot afford tuition. To meet this need, Holy Sepulcher School has developed an opportunity to Adopt a Student by making a donation to help sponsor a student in tuition. If you would like to make a donation please call Sister Anna Marie at 724-586-5022 or Father Bob at 724-586-7610. Our goal for the future is to establish a student tuition assistance program. RCIA RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) classes begin this week. The RCIA is a journey of study of the Catholic Faith and prayer in a warm, friendly, and informal atmosphere. There is time provided for questions and discussions. Is there someone you know who might want to become part of our Catholic Family? Classes begin Tuesday, September 13 at 7pm in the John Paul II Room. For any questions or to register, please contact Amy in the Faith Formation Office at 724-586-7276. Please RSVP if you have not done so already. CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD TRAINING The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to the Faith Formation of children which is rooted in Scripture, Liturgy and Montessori educational principles. It is based on several key principles: God and the child are in relationship; the child has great potential for receiving and enjoying the deepest elements of the Gospel message; the child is capable of falling in love with God. The purpose of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is to assist children in the development of this relationship, respecting the child s dignity in responding to the soul s desire, Help me to draw myself closer to God. At Holy Sepulcher, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is offered for children (3-6 years old) as well as for the children in our school. In order to be able to offer this to more children, we need to have catechists trained in this model of Faith Formation. If you happen to have training already, please let us know. We d love to hear from you! We are going to be offering a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd training led by Allison Kliber-Stickney. The sessions will take place every other week, beginning on September 30 from 10:00-11:30am in the Primary Center (the peach house across the street from Holy Sepulcher). Please contact Amy in the Faith Formation office if you re interested in attending this training. We will meet every other Friday from 10 11:30am through the month of December.
