Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello all and peace and blessings to you all. We have had a wonderful first few weeks of school and it has been so amazing to see all of our students and families returning to school. The smiles and energy that our students and families bring to the school are so infectious. Although it has been a great start to the school year, it has also been bittersweet, as two of our teachers, Miss Shannon Buttell (1st grade) and Mrs. Linda Harrison (7th grade), lost loved ones. Miss Buttell lost her father, William. Mrs. Harrison lost her mother, Susan, on the same day. We want to make sure to keep the Buttell and Harrison families in our thoughts and prayers. One thing that I have reflected on is how blessed we are to have staff members who lift each other up in times of pain and sadness. When our staff received the news of our staff members losses, everyone rallied together and covered the teachers schedules, attended the vigils and funerals and came together in prayer. The love that is shared at this school is truly unique. We were able to celebrate something very joyous to start the school year amidst some of our sadness. Mrs. Sarah Saucier, one of our Resource teachers, and her husband Tim welcomed their new baby boy, Benjamin. Congratulations Sarah and Tim! On Monday, August 21st, our students and staff had many fun activities centered on the solar eclipse. Many of our teachers organized and planned lessons and activities for the entire school. We even had a wonderful donor from our school community donate the eclipse safety glasses for all the students and staff. It was a fun day of learning in a once-in-a-lifetime event. Lastly, Assistant Principal Becky Sluyter and I wanted to express our deepest gratitude to the wonderful welcome we received from the St. Pius X parish on Sunday, August 20th at Mass and for the Feast of St. Pius X picnic. Thank you to Father Mike Eckley and the parish for the blessing we received and all of your prayers. We are also looking forward to the same welcome from the St. Leo parish at the St. Leo Festival and Mass on Sunday, September the 10th. We are so grateful for all of your support and prayers. We could not do it without them. Thank you and God bless. Principal Cory Sepich St. Pius X / St. Leo School is still accepting registrations for all grades pre-school through grade 8 for the school year about to begin. Please call the school office at 402-551-6667 for information. Lunch Menu M: Popcorn chicken T: Crunchy Taco W: Grilled Cheese Th: Mini Corn dogs F: Fajita Chicken Wrap Development Dialogue August 27, 2017 Many families have willed their homes, vacation homes or other real estate to their parish or school, some with the provision of living in those homes until death. Consult your attorney if this type of gift would benefit you and your estate. Please prayerfully consider remembering our School and/or Parish's Endowment Funds in your will or estate planning. Please contact Bob Nowaczyk, SPSL's Development Coordinator at 402-551-6667 for more information. Laity in Liturgy August 27 Liturgy means work of the people. It is not up to me the liturgist to determine whether that work is financial or temporal. It s not my job to preach about how much you have to offer. But it is up to me to help you find, whatever comfortable place we CAN find for you to stretch and strengthen your labor in and communal connection to the church here on 102nd St. as well as the Church Universal on earth! We want to see your faces in the choir, playing bells, in the chapel, at religious education, ushering at Mass, greeting at Mass, helping us organize hospitality, helping us any where we can have you. ESPECIAL- LY if you are new to us! Even a shy individual, would be a great reward for the whole family, for example, by committing to a holy hour in adoration! Come share the JOY WE ARE ALREADY SO BLESSED WITH, by smiling alongside the bustling day to day life of St. Leo the great! And if you are NOT NEW, go find someone who IS and let them know just how welcome they are to share all we have going on in this family. Drew Neneman Entrance Antiphon Turn your ear, O Lord, and answer me; save the servant who trusts in you, my God. Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I cry to you all the day long. Cf. Ps 86 (85): 1-3 Communion Antiphon The earth is replete with the fruits of your work, O Lord; you bring forth bread from the earth and wine to cheer the heart. Cf. Christ Renews His Parish Retreats will be offered at St. Leo this Fall. What Is Christ Renews His Parish? Christ Renews His Parish was one of the most spiritual experiences of my life. As I listened and prayed over the weekend, I could face some of the issues that had been burdening me. Jesus Christ is our Supreme Healer and wants to heal us spiritually, emotionally, and even physically. It is by His Grace that this is accomplished. Take time to nourish your soul, and give God the time to bring you in touch with His loving care. - Lora Cooper, St. Leo s CRHP Alum I attended St. Leo's very first Christ Renews His Parish week end in the fall of 2014. Upon reflection, it was a gift that I gave to myself, and it just keeps on giving. I urge you to sign up now. No more excuses! Be prepared for small groups; opportunities to meet and make endearing friends, and to hear personal challenges and triumphs. The Holy Spirit is calling you this fall. Are you listening or resisting? Evonne Rodriguez-Sierra, St. Leo s CRHP Alum Pick up a brochure in the commons and social areas around church for more information about the upcoming fall CRHP renewal weekends: Women s Retreat: Saturday September 16 through Sunday, September 17. Men's Retreat: Saturday September 23 through Sunday September 24. Don t miss out on this spiritual renewal opportunity! Pick up a brochure or visit stleo.net for more details. If you ever have the least bit of concern about supporting our school and our parish, all you need to do is observe our children in this environment getting a quality education in faith-filled environment, attending Mass and preparing for the sacraments. We are truly blessed to have this school and we owe it to future generations to keep it vibrant, viable and available to any family that desires a Catholic education for their children. This capital campaign will benefit our children and the future generations of children who will be able to attend St. Pius X / St. Leo School. We can all take a great deal of pride in how we are impacting the lives of these young people. You recently received a Frequently Asked Questions flier in the mail that answered some of the questions that have been raised about the campaign. In a couple of weeks you will receive another document that provides all of the details of this campaign for our church and school. Please take the time to review this information completely so you can make an informed decision regarding your support of parish and school. Thank you for your ongoing support of our parish and of St. Pius X / St. Leo School. 08 l St. Leo Catholic Church

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman Have you ever been asked to do something very important and you feel totally inadequate to accomplish what you been asked to do? I m sure Simon Peter had that same over-whelming feeling when Jesus told him, And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the nether-world shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Wow, no pressure here! Peter got this job as the first leader of the church by answering one interview question, Who do you say that I am? That is a question we all need to answer. Who do we say Jesus is? What does He mean to us in our lives? If we truly acknowledge Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, then flesh and blood has not revealed this to us, but the Holy Spirit of God. As Saint Paul says in First Corinthians, no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. I m certain that Peter and the rest of the apostles had no idea how their lives would change forever once they answered that simple question, Who do you say that I am. At the beginning they all felt inadequate and not worthy to follow the Lord. Once the Holy Spirit came upon them, the answer was simple, You are the Christ the Son of the Living God, what do you need me to do for you? The Lord calls all of us to be a part of the building up the Kingdom of God. We may feel unworthy and unsure of what to do to help bring in the God s kingdom, but remember the same Holy Spirit that guided Saint Peter also fills us with the Understanding and Wisdom of God.
