Worship and Spiritual Life Pastor s Corner I would have put this in last week, but with bulletin deadlines and the way things played out I didn t get a chance to do so. A couple of weekends ago, the Archbishop accepted two of our parishioners, Duane Schireman and Chris Shambro, as Candidates for the Diaconate. As I m sure all of you know, they have been in the Diaconate program for the last couple of years engaged in prayer and study, but up until this point they have been what is known as Aspirants. As Aspirants they have been open to the possibility of becoming Deacons and have been prayerfully working towards that as a general goal, but the step of Candidacy ups the ante, so to speak. In many senses it can be seen as the difference between dating and getting engaged. When a couple is dating, they have a formalized relationship and are taking it seriously but the very act of getting engaged more than formalizes it; it raises it to a whole new level. So it is with our new Deacon candidates here In Everett, and the rest of their Deacon class. As such, congratulations are in order. Unlike engaged couples they don t have a ring to show off, but I expect you might notice a special glow when you see them in person. They still have quite a road in front of them, with two more years of preparation, but they are well on their way. In any case, make sure you congratulate them when you see them around and assure them of your prayers for this last leg of their journey towards ordination. In other news, I have been out on vacation this last week, first playing golf in the heat with my brother and Dad and then off to visit some friends in the Midwest. I ll be out through Tuesday of this week, so I ll miss the first day of school but will be back on Wednesday and hopefully raring to go. It has been a hectic start to my time here in Everett, but I feel that it will be good to be coming home this time, instead of to a new place. As I noted a couple of weeks ago in the bulletin, I am more or less moved in at this point so I will be coming back to a settled residence. I m looking forward to the year to come and all that it might bring. I am a little nervous with the unknown that any future brings, but I guess that s standard and returns us to the call to trust that Christ continually proclaims. Prayers Always, Fr. Through the seed of his Word you built a movement the world has rarely seen and so longs for: a movement of mercy, a movement of compassion, a movement of hope shining in the darkest places. In each of your Sisters chapels around the world there hangs a crucifix: the suffering, dying Christ and the words, I thirst. These words: a call to action. We gaze upon your example walking off the safe path to risk all in doing the will of the Lord for the poorest of the poor, and we hear the agonizing cry of the one who called upon you: I thirst. Have we too not heard the voice of God? Mother Teresa, you know our hearts, crying for the one who cries for us. As we respond to this cry in our prayers and in our works, we ask your intercession: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us. Amen. Please join your hosts CLINT HALL & CHERYL GORDON in Mattie Hall following the 10:00 a.m. Mass on September 9 th Coffee & donuts will be served in Hensen Hall after the 8:30 & 11:30 Masses. Please don t forget that the Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection will be taken up on September 15 th & 16 th. Our Missions Office sent the following information to us this week: Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection-September 15-16 This annual collection (September 15/16 in 2018) supports the national and local effort of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) serves to combat domestic poverty and to implement the Church's social teachings. The Archdiocesan contribution to this national collection results in many grants supporting efforts in western Washington, including the Catholic Community Services PREPARES programs in many of our parishes, and for education in our parishes and schools on Catholic social teaching. Information on CCHD, this annual Special Collection, as well as the local and national CCHD grantees in this Archdiocese, can be found at our website:www.seattlearchdiocese.org/cchd.

Immaculate Conception & Our Lady of Perpetual Help School News Youth Ministry Announcements

Religious Education Announcements Catechetical Sunday is September 16, 2018. Please pray for our parish catechists who offer their time, talent and treasure for our parish children and adults. We have many wonderful people that have answered the call to catechize those in our parish that take part in Elementary Faith Formation, RCIA, Journey with Jesus, Marriage Preparation, Vacation Bible Camp, CLOW and Youth Group. Prayer for Catechists O God, our Heavenly Father, you have given us the gift of these catechists to be heralds of the Gospel to our parish family. We lift them up to you in thanksgiving and intercede for them concerning their hopes and needs. May we be attentive to the presence of your Word in them, a Word that lifts up and affirms, calls forth and challenges, is compassionate and consoles. We pray that our parish family will always be blessed with those who have responded to the call to share in Christ s prophetic mission as catechists. May we, too, be open to the universal call to service that Christ addresses to all of his disciples, contributing our gifts to the Communion of Faith, the Church. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen. Journey with Jesus will begin September 12 th! Our new program is called Consoling the Heart of Jesus.
