This is Mothers Day. All moms, both the living and the deceased, will be remembered at this weekend s Masses. Today, Sunday, May 13, at the 12:00Noon Mass, we say thank you and farewell to Sister Denise Marie. Sister has been our dedicated and joyful pastoral associate since August of 1994. It hardly seems possible that Sister is completing her twentyfifth year of service with us. The leadership of the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland has called Sister Denise back to the Ursuline Motherhouse. Sister will begin a new ministry in service to the Ursuline community. There just are not enough words to express the gratitude of so many at St Charles for Sister Denise s work here. We all wish that she could have stayed forever. However, that is not to be. Faithful to her vow of obedience, Sister has been preparing for her new role. She has spent lots of time and has shed lots of tears as have most of us! Immediately after Mass, there will be a reception for Sister Denise Marie in the Corrigan Gym. For those who may want to keep in touch, here is Sister s new address: Sister Denise Marie Vlna OSU Ursuline Motherhouse 2600 Lander Road Pepper Pike, OH 44124 Father Lawrence J Bayer was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Cleveland in May of 1958. After his earlier appointments at St Paul--Akron, Assumption--Broadview Heights, and as University Hospitals Chaplain, Father Bayer served as associate pastor at St Charles from 1971 to 1976. He was then appointed pastor at Parma s St Bridget of Kildare Parish in 1976; after twenty-nine years there, Father Bayer retired in 2005 and he now resides in Strongsville. Maybe retired is not the correct word. Father Bayer continues to provide priestly service at a number of local parishes. He has been our faithful Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am Mass celebrant for many years. We are most grateful for his assistance as it allows us to offer an additional daily Mass twice per week. This month Father Bayer celebrates the sixtieth anniversary of his priestly ordination. The Diocese will honor him, and his classmates, at a Jubilee Mass on Tuesday, May 22, 11:00am at St Basil Church in Brecksville. We at St Charles join Father Bayer s family and many friends in congratulating him on his sixty years of faithful and honorable priestly ministry and in thanking him for his continued good work for us at St Charles Borromeo. If you would like to send a word of appreciation, here s how: Father Lawrence J Bayer 13372 Olympus Way Strongsville, OH 44149 Matthew Cortnick spent his seminary internship 2015-2016 here at St Charles. Deacon Matt, and his classmates, will be ordained to the Cleveland priesthood next Saturday, May 19, at 10:00am at St John Cathedral. The soon-to-be Father Matthew Cortnick invites you to his First Mass of Thanksgiving next Sunday, May 20, at 12:15pm, at St John Vianney Church, 7575 Bellflower, (east off Route 306, north of Route 2) Mentor Ohio. You are also invited to the Reception in the Father Kline Parish Center (on the SJV parish property) following the First Mass.
