Bloomington Living Hope Lutheran Church Weekend of August 18-20, 2018 Welcome! It is a joy to have you with us today and it is our prayer that you are strengthened and uplifted through our worship and fellowship. We especially welcome those visiting. Please pick up information about our church at the kiosk located in the entry. Also, please take time after the service to introduce yourself to our pastor. We would like to get to know you better. A Prayer in Preparation for Worship O Lord our Maker, Redeemer, and Comforter we are assembled in your presence to hear your holy Word. We pray that you would open our hearts by your Holy Spirit, that through the preaching of your Word we may repent of our sins, believe in Jesus, and grow day by day in grace and holiness. Amen. New Series: Life Together It is my hope that this sermon series will offer a fresh means to engage the classic book, Life Together, by Dietrich Bohoeffer. The ideas in this book encourage us to participate in the simple habits of Christian discipleship. Each of us is always learning more about how to live a life devoted to following Christ, in prayer, in service, in worship, and in Bible study. Who we are as individuals shapes our community, and how we live as a community shapes how we relate to God as individuals. May we answer the call from God to a life dedicated to him and to each other! In His Service, Joel Hansen Director of Youth Ministry In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. 1 Peter 1:3-4

New Bible Classes Begin in September There is a class for you! Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class Begins September 9 at 9:15 AM at BLC and 9:00 AM at Living Hope This class will look carefully at the book of Philippians, which is a Prison Epistle (letter written while in prison). Paul sent this letter to show his appreciation and love to the Philippians for their continued help and support, and also to encourage their growth. It is a very personal letter that expresses Paul s joy in Christ. Through discussion and the power of the Holy Spirit please join us as we too grow in the eternal joy that only God can give! Sunday Morning Jr. High Empower Bible Study Begins September 9 at 9:15 AM at BLC and 9:00 AM at Living Hope This is a chance for 6 th 8 th graders to connect, talk about relevant issues, and learn how to live out their faith. Tuesday Morning Men s Bible Class at Bloomington Lutheran School Begins September 11 at 6:30 AM (Pickleball follows at 7:30 AM) Do you think today s culture is going to heck in a hand basket? Has our culture s moral bank account fallen into the red? As the wise Solomon said, there is nothing new under the sun. Join us on Tuesday mornings as we study the moral decay of the people of Israel after the time of Joshua in the book of Judges. Come to get to know the God who can deliver us daily, just as he delivered the morally bankrupt people of Israel (again and again). Email Mark Edlund at medlund@thesfc.com if you would like to be added to the email list. Tuesday Evening Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing Bible Class at Living Hope Lutheran Church Begins September 11 at 6:30 PM Since our summer hiatus is ending, it is time to continue our weekly study and discussion of the book of Revelation. This book provides believers with the beautiful assurance of Christ's final victory. The seven visions that the apostle John records describe the ongoing struggle between Christ and Satan. In these visions, God assures believers that they will have eternal victory in heaven and that Satan will finally be defeated. New members are always welcome. Interpreter provided. Wednesday Morning Adult Bible Class at Bloomington Lutheran School Begins September 5 at 10:00 AM St. Paul's letter to the Romans is the first epistle in the New Testament. It has always played an important role in the history of the church because it summarizes so well the essential emphasis of the apostle's evangelical theology. Martin Luther had an especially exalted view of Romans: "This epistle is really the chief part of the New Testament, and is truly the purest Gospel. It is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, but also that he should occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul. We can never read it or ponder over it too much; for the more we deal with it, the more precious it becomes and the better it tastes." Join us as we "take a taste" of the book of Romans. More classes listed on reverse side.
