Dear Parent, We want to invite you to ride along with your child as we begin learning that God tells us which way to go. We have planned an exciting summer around a new Bikes and Trikes theme that we re sure your child will enjoy, but the ultimate goal is for them to hear that God loves them and wants to tell them the best way to go. When you choose to do the fun activities listed below each week, you are partnering with us to help your child learn this very important truth. Your child will make a different road sign each week to bring home. It, along with the activities below, will be a fun way for your child to review the Bible story all while making memories with their favorite person YOU! If you have any questions, feel free to speak with your child s small group leader. We are praying for a wonderful summer as we all learn that God tells us which way to go! JUNE WEEK 1 Pick an area in your home or outside to play a version of follow-the-leader. Tell your child to hold up the Bible Sign he made. Tell him that you will follow the Bible Sign wherever it goes because the Bible tells us which way to go. Switch places and let your child follow the Bible Sign while you are the leader. WEEK 2 Place the Heart Sign in a special place in your house. Tell all the family members you are going to play a game. Anytime a person in the family holds up the Heart Sign, it means they need some love. The rest of the family will go and give that person a hug, because the Bible tells us loving one another is the way to go. WEEK 3 Your child is learning that God wants us to talk to Him anytime, anywhere, about anything. Place the Praying Hands Sign by your child s bed to begin with. She can hold the sign while you pray together before she goes to bed. Next, take it in the car and pray together before you drive off and to the dinner table to pray before you eat. Hold it up while playing and pray just to tell God you love Him. The idea is for your child to practice talking to God anytime, anywhere, about anything, because the Bible tells us that praying is the way to go. WEEK 4 Talk to your child about what it looks like when we share our things. We may share part of our snack or let someone else play with our toys. When we share what we have it makes people feel good inside, and when they feel good they smile. Buy some smiley face stickers. Place a blank piece of paper and his Smiley Face Sign in the kitchen. Tell your child you will give him one sticker every time he shares to go on the piece of paper and at the end of the week you can count and see how many smiley faces he has. Celebrate with him at the end of the week because the Bible tells us that sharing is the way to go! JULY WEEK 1 If you have a globe, gently take turns spinning it and stopping it with your finger. If you have a flat map of the world, use a beanbag or coin to toss on the map. Look at where your finger, beanbag or coin lands. Say the name of the place for your child to hear and repeat. Hold up the Globe Sign she made and tell her we can take God s Word with us wherever we go! WEEK 2 Hold your child up to a mirror and look into it together. Tell your child to repeat after you as you say, (Name of child) is wonderfully made by God! Next say, (Mommy/Daddy) is wonderfully made by God! Hold up the Handprint Sign your child made and tell him the Bible tells us that God made us. When we remember that, God s Word is with us wherever we go! WEEK 3 Sit down with your child and tell her you are going to name a time and then she has to act it out. For example, if you say bath time, she must pretend to take a bath. Name times such as play time, dinner time, nap time, bed time, time to clean up, time to go to church, time to brush her teeth, etc. Switch roles and let her call out times while you act them out. Hold up the Clock Sign she made and tell her the Bible tells us God loves us all the time. When we remember that, God s Word is with us wherever we go. WEEK 4 Grab a photo album, home video or go on one of your family s social media sites. Look at different family members' pictures together. Say each person s name and what makes them unique. Maybe they have blue eyes and enjoy working on cars or they have red hair and love to sing. Hold up the People Sign your child made. Tell him the Bible says we can be a part of God s family too. When we remember that, God s Word is with us wherever we go. WEEK 5 Tell your child she can invite a friend over to play. Talk with her about what she wants to do with her special friend. When the play date is over, talk with your child about what makes someone a friend. They are kind. They share. They re fun. They help you etc. Hold up the Jesus Sign and tell your child that the Bible tells us God gave us Jesus to be our friend forever. Jesus is the best friend we will ever have. When we remember that, God s Word is with us wherever we go. Parent Activity Option 1 Follow the Signs July Week 3 Copy white cardstock. One per child.
