December 2017 It s Holiday time at the Legion Commanders once again. This Corner is the time of year that we enjoy spending with our families and From friends. the desk I want of the to Commander wish you and Hardin your Post families 113 a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! As commander, I have witnessed many things that have made me proud to be part of this post. Two recent examples of giving and caring about this post that truly touched my heart; the first example is when the SAL gave $6,000 followed by the ALR giving $10,000 toward the posts debt. From the bottom of my heart I can say that ALL legion families have reunited within these walls. This post is once again filled with HAPPINESS and JOY. OUR POST is financially secure thanks to every one of our legion families. We will be starting the new year off right with the post being free of all debt!! As we closeout 2017 there are some key dates to remember. New Year s Eve Party featuring Bar Nuns Band, buy your tickets early because I m sure we will sell out. The New Year s Eve bash is only $40 and includes a prime rib dinner, breakfast, party favors and a live band. December 9 th is the Legion breakfast with Santa. December 27th a free luncheon for all WWII and Korea Veterans and their guest. This is a great way to honor these veterans. Please RSVP by December 16th at 270-737- 9949. Please let me know if you would like to volunteer to help with this luncheon. Once again this year, a special thanks to Randy Harris for being the MC of the Veterans Day Ceremony. I would also like to recognize our Legion Riders for displaying the flags and parking the guests at the Veterans Tribute in the Nature Park. Additionally, I want to thank all who assisted with the Veterans luncheon to include Girl Scout Troop 657. Without all our dedicated volunteers it would not have been a memorable event for veterans to remember for years to come. The Post s Lounge and Bingo sessions will be closed on Dec 24th and December 31 st. Additionally, the Post Lounge will be closed December 25 th and January 1 st, so we can all enjoy the Holidays. I want to extend a hearty welcome our new Child Welfare Officer, Ivy Taylor who is excited about her new role! The Legion is continuing our Post s membership drive and we are near 80% of goal. Every day I m amazed at what WE have accomplished in the past year and a half. Therefore, thank you for all your continued support in making this legion what it has become. John S. Saunders, Commander Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values. - Thomas S. Monson Randy Morris Robert McComas Harold Rice Marvin Robbins John Ginn Theodore Tillman Rex Thompson Terry Brakebill Joseph Skala Joseph Banks James Kilgore Stanley Zajdel Robert French Auxiliary Unit 113 From the desk of the President Auxiliary Unit I Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you enjoyed spending time with family and friends and gave thanks for all the good that touches you! As we look forward to Christmas and the holiday activities, let s not get too caught up in the hustle and bustle and remember to take some time to enjoy the moment and the people who touch our lives The joy of the season isn t something everyone enjoys. Remember to give a bit back and help those in need. The Auxiliary sponsored food drive continues to collect non-perishable food until December 18th. Give some of your valuable time and ring the bell for the Salvation Army, man the Angel Tree booth at the mall for needy children of Hardin county or whatever your special cause at this time of year. Thank you for the gift of yourself as you take time for others. As a Unit member, events I hope you can help with in December are Breakfast with Santa on December 9th from 8-11am, Operation Homefront on December 11th and Wreaths across America on December 16th beginning at 9:30 am. These are opportunities to give of self and receive smiles from the children, feel the gratitude of military families and honor of those laid to rest. It is what we do as American Legion Auxiliary member. Continued on page 4:

Chaplains Corner Worship God 1st Chronicles 16:23-25: Sing to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. Worship is the regular rhythm that in spite of our circumstances and our grieving, we still decide to say to God thank you. Nearly every worship song we sing is saying thank you for something. For the cross, for life, for our friendships, for our family, for our church, for the many good things that God is giving us. Even in difficult circumstances, worship God. Be grateful for all that he has given you and for all that he has done for you.
