The September s 1st degree exemplifications will be held at Holy Spirit Church in Downtown Kent, as our team isn t put together yet. We have 2 candidates! Please attend to support your new Brothers! When:... Tuesday, September 13 th Time:... 7:00 PM We will be contacting all of you who are ready for 2nd & 3rd degree rankings soon to schedule for ceremonies close to our area. After a meeting with our District Deputy, we are opting out of the Tootsie Roll Program this year because we need more time to secure outlets for the sales. Some stores need up to 6 mos. notice to be able to schedule our activities into their schedule. More on that later. Come join us for our regular meeting Tuesday September 6th @ 7:00 PM. There will be refreshments and we will play poker for Pennies for Heaven. Come Support your council!! I would like to thank you ALL, who participated in the Seat Cushion project this Saturday @ Husky Stadium!! Page 3
With your generous gift of time, you help support your Council and your Church. As you know, the proceeds from this activity are donated to the Church by the Knights of Columbus, to support the various ministries of the Church! This year we will have to remove the cushions on Sunday, Nov, 6th instead of the usual Saturday, because of a late game to be played Saturday. Will let you know more later after conferring with the Huskies and Father Jim about details. For those of you who couldn't make it this week Please put us on your calendar for Nov. 6th for removal! Great Blessings! Ron Cunningham, Grand Knight Council 11780 Knights and Knight Families Honored The council would like to honor those knights that have shown the spirit of what it really means to be a Knight. The Knight and Family of the Month are selected for their commitment to the council, church and community. They have shown all the qualifications in the three things we hold dear in the Knights: CHARITY, UNITY, and FRATERNITY. They are each picked from a fine group of people, all deserving of this award for that period. I personally congratulate each for their efforts to make our community better. The local competition will be held September 17, 2011 between 9:30 AM and 12:00 PM at Renton High School. The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored annually, with the winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C international headquarters based in New Haven, CT, based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. For additional information contact Scott Gilyeat at (425) 433-0530. Support Vocations Program Through the Knights of Columbus Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP), councils, assemblies and Squires circles adopt one or more seminarians or postulants and provide them with financial assistance and moral support. RSVP money is used by seminarians and those in religious formation for tuition and books, car insurance and maintenance, travel during vacations, emergency expenditures and other living expenses. Knights provide more than financial support, though. Members write letters to students, sponsor dinners for them, invite them to join the Order and, most importantly, pray for vocations. Our council has been assigned a seminarian from Spokane, WA by the name of David Kruse. Membership Recruitment Pennies for Heaven Pennies for Heaven campaign in which spare cents are collected from members at all council meetings and activities and subsequently are totaled at the state convention. Proceeds are used to support vocations programs. Page 6
Boy Scout Eagle Plaque For a number of years our council has been the charter organization for the Boy Scout Troop 470 that meets here at St. John s. To my knowledge we have not made any significant support or contribution to the troop. The current plaque that list all the eagle scouts from Troop 470 over the last 20 years has filled up. They are in need of a new plaque for their future eagle scouts. I would like to propose that our council buy them a new plaque for their future eagle scouts. The plaque costs $240. Display Board in Narthex Some of you may have noticed the new knights Display Board in the Narthex. You can always find a Form 100 or Knights of Columbus info brochures for a new prospective brother and a current newsletter here. There will also be rotating news articles got a suggestion? Email GK Ron Cunningham @ roncunningham47@comcast.net. Attendance Lottery Attendance at our regular business meetings has been low. So there was an idea that we have an attendance lottery. Each month after the meeting a poker chip is drawn from a bag. That individual will receive the amount set for that meeting. The individual must be in attendance to win. If the individual is not in attendance, the amount goes up by $5. Who will it be next? Good of the Order Please pray for those brothers that have past and pray for the brothers and family members that are sick. If you have any good of the order that you want people to pray for send a message to Ron Cunningham at roncunningham47@comcast.net. August Meeting: Br. James Grad Recovering from a stroke. Please pray for all those previously mentioned. Newsletter Input If you have something that you would like to add to the council newsletter, please submit it to Scott Gilyeat at sagilyeat@comcast.net Page 7
