Lord and Source of All Gifts, we rejoice in the fullness of Your holy generosity, We thank You especially now for the gift of change, that gift of newness that opens doors closed by habit and routine. This means we will have some new officers and some are staying in their present position. We need new Brothers in our Council to take part in the operations of our Council. This means that you must be a Third Degree member in the Knights of Columbus. This is according to our Supreme requirements. There are 300 members in our Council and we need to tap into the knowledge and experience of those other 270 members in our Council to participate and lead us. It is not hard to do; it just takes a little time to organize and have functions that we, the Knights are proud to do. Step up to the plate and become involved. As one of the Squires stated at the State Convention, I am not telling you that it is going to be easy. I am telling you that it is going to be worth it. I have been very satisfied and honored to be your Grand Knight for the last two years and appreciate very much all the help that all of you contributed. That is what makes it worth it. Our slate of officers has been put together by the Trustees and will be voted on at our next meeting in June. There is still time for any of you to volunteer and take part in your Council s activities as a leader. Please consider. Family of the Month Don and Karen Schutte: Don took his 1st, 2nd and 3 rd degree in Mar. of 1953; his 4th in Nov. of 1955. Don and Karen are both active in the community, and have been instrumental in encouraging the beautification and enhancement of the Old Town area south of the tracks. With Don s encouragement, the Council supported the painting of the historic murals on the south side of the Hall; an enhancements to the beauty and charm of downtown. Don also plays the broomstick and dresser drawer at the Veteran's Home in Grand Island. Karen supports Don s Knight s involvement. She and Don are involved in the Kearney Area Concerned Citizens who provide a Thanksgiving Dinner to Kearney Area residents and serve as coordinators of the event. Both Don and Karen are involved at St. James parish, serving as greeters and extraordinary ministers of communion. A BIG Thank you and congratulations Don and Karen! Evangelization: That the personal encounter with Jesus may arouse in many young people the desire to offer their own lives in priesthood or consecrated life. From the Desk of Fr. Bob Rooney Memories I recall many memories from my childhood days and from my days as an adult. Many memories from my childhood fill my mind. For example, as a 2 nd grader I was one of about 30 or so students in Sister Madeline s room. On one occasion a new girl from North Loup, NE joined our class. Sister Madeline thought I was showing off to the new girl, so she proceeded to march me across the hall to the activities room where the nuns sewed and administered discipline. Then Sister Madeline took me over her knee and gave me a spanking. O yes, many memories flood my mind. Many include one of my best friends, Jim C. who nourished me with many memories both when we were growing up and later on as an adult. One unforgettable one included him taking me and his dad on a paid trip to Ireland. Sad to say my friend is now deceased. I think it is important for us to create our own memories presently. These memories are part of our life now and will be treasures in the future. So let us begin making beautiful memories during our lives now for our futures.
