ALL SAINTS SCHOOL Phone 5463 1322 Fax 5463 2597 REFLECTION Dear God, Teach me To share the gifts you have given me To speak out for the victims of injustice who have no voice To reject the violence which runs through much of our world today Holy Spirit of God Renew my hope for a world free from the cruelty and evil of war so that may all come to share in God s peace and justice. Amen. PRINCIPAL S REPORT Welcome to Week 1 of Term 2. I trust that you had a happy, holy and safe Easter break and are now ready for your children to return to school. Term 2 is traditionally a very busy term with cross country trials, NAPLAN, testing, reporting and parent interviews are all happening in this term. As always if you have any concerns regarding your child s education, please make contact with either your child s teacher or myself. Have a great week!! Phil Professional Leave I was very fortunate to have joined 29 other principals and BCEO staff on a pilgrimage through the Holy Land and Rome. It was an amazing trip with many, many highlights. Visiting the very holiest of places that are so important to our faith was both inspiring and humbling. Memories of visiting places such as Bethlehem, Jerusalem, The Jordan River, The Mount of Olives and walking the Stations of the Cross will stay with me for a life-time. I was also very fortunate to have spent time exploring Rome and the Vatican in particular. We joined over 100,000 people in Saint Peter s Square to listen to Pope Francis and were very fortunate to have been given VIP seating at his weekly public address. Pope Francis is much loved and I can see why. He is a very humble man who has a true love for 23 April 2014 Email pboonah@bne.catholic.edu.au Web www.allsaintsboonah.qld.edu.au people and spent hours walking through Saint Peter s Square meeting people. A huge thank you to Mrs. Neuendorf who took over from me. Kathy did a great job and I was very much at ease knowing the school was in such great hands! ANZAC DAY On Friday we remember the sacrifice the men and women of the Australian Armed Forces have made so we can all enjoy the freedom we experience in Australia. It has been a long standing tradition here at All Saints that we march in the annual ANZAC Day Parade. Over the years we have had a wonderful response with a great many of our students marching and we hope to continue this fine tradition once again in 2014. If you would like to join us and represent our school on Friday, please meet us at 10:20 am opposite the Anglican Church on Church Street. Please have students dressed in their normal day uniform. The march is along High Street to the Monument beside Boonah State School. Hope to see you there!! NAPLAN Dates for this year s NAPLAN Testing are Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 May. NAPLAN testing involved our Year 3, 5 and 7 students. If you do not want your child to participate in the NAPLAN tests please contact me as soon as possible. School Cross Country Trials The 2014 All Saints Cross Country Trials will be held on Friday 2 April. The Prep to Year 3 Trials will be held on the oval on Frank Street and the Years 4 7 trials will be held at Coronation Park. Both cross country trials will begin at 9:30am. Parent Portal All Saints is excited to announce that we will soon have a web portal for parents. This will go live in Week 3. You will be able to see upto-date information about happenings in the school, forms that need to be returned, names and contact details for staff, policy information and much more.

To get access to the Parent Portal you will need an account which will be provided. We will soon be sending emails explaining your username and password and instructions to get you logged in. To get an account, you need to have provided an email address to the school. Please fill in the form attached you re your current email address so we can cross check our records or enter a new email address. It is vitally important that you keep us informed of changes to any contact details, including email addresses as more and more information will be accessed electronically by you. A limited number of paper copies of our newsletter will still be available from the school once we move fully to our Parent Portal. School Uniform The high standard of school uniform at All Saints is something that is often commented upon by visitors, local residents and parents. As we move into cooler weather, students begin to wear slight variations in uniform. I would like to remind students and parents that pullovers and jumpers need to be clearly marked for identification and that they should be the regulation colour and style. Please contact the school office if there are any concerns or needs in relation to winter uniform. There are second-hand uniforms and items available at the office. Before/After school If students arrive prior to 8:30am they are to stay in the undercover area and wait for the teacher on duty to arrive. Please remind the children that they are to sit and wait. We have had a couple of injuries occur because students have not followed the rule of sitting and waiting for the teacher on duty to arrive. After school supervision concludes at 3:30pm or with the departure of the last school bus from All Saints School. Please remind children that they are not to play on the oval after school but are to sit and wait in the undercover area for parents or to catch the bus. There is NO supervision of the oval or the play ground equipment before or after school so no students are allowed to play in these areas. I ask that parents also ensure that younger brothers and sisters also don t play on the oval or play equipment before or after school. I thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep your children safe at All Saints. Asthma If your child has been diagnosed with asthma, please see the school office for an Asthma Action Plan. Cowboys Corner What has happened to my beloved Cowboys since I have been away. They have been cursed by injuries, bad refereeing and the continuing conspiracy of the NRL to keep this great team from rising to the heights they so justly deserve!! Well it stops this week! This week we draw a line in the sand and come out and smash the slithering Eels! Watch as the mighty Cowboys overcome all that has been thrown against them and once again send shivers through the footballing world!! Go the MIGHTY COWBOYS!!!! The joyful celebration of Christ s resurrection continues for the 50 day Easter season from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. The liturgical colour for Easter is white. Feast Day of St Mark April 25 th ANZAC Day, is also the Feast Day of ST Mark. St Mark wrote the second Gospel, probably in Rome sometime before the year 60AD; he wrote it in Greek for the Gentile converts to Christianity. He was

highly esteemed in the early Church, and his mother s house in Jerusalem served as a meeting place for Christians there. Just a thought The world only gets better because people risk something to make it better. Stay classy, All Saints Cathy LIBRARY NEWS If we ever needed an excuse to sit and read, this is it! May is National Family Reading Month Family involvement in reading at school and at home has a strong and positive impact on a child s educational achievement. Be a reading role model and let your children see you reading- for enjoyment, for news and for information in cookbooks, magazines, online etc. An adult reading role model is a key motivator for independent reading practice. All classes have been invited to participate in this event. Teachers will provide your child with a reading log to be filled in after reading sessions with your child. 10 minutes per day is all that is required. Bookclub will go home this week. Please ensure all orders are returned to the office by Friday 2 May. Payment can be made by cash, cheque (made out to Ashton Scholastic or All Saints School), EFT (credit inc.) at the office or Credit card directly to Scholastic by filling in details on the order form. Please leave this section attached to your order form and make a copy of the receipt number for your own records if needed. Have a great week! Thanks also to the Tuckshop Convenors, Linda Faulkner and Sam Hegarty for their dedication and service over and beyond their responsibilities. Also, I must acknowledge the wonderful band of volunteers who assist each week at the tuckshop, or bring along home baked goodies for sale. I would also like to recognise the generosity of those who donate produce each week. I would like to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of our Treasurer, George Nicola and thank him for his contribution over the past year. I would also like to thank Phillip Manitta and my Executive Team and P&F members for their support. I also wish to thank Amanda Cant for her five (5) years in the role of Secretary. Finally, I would like to thank the Board, the Staff and all our families and friends of the All Saints community and indeed the wider Boonah Community who continually offer their support which enables the P&F to raise funds for the betterment of our students.
