The Prayer Shawl Ministry will not meet until January 2018. Craft Show: A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the Crafty Ladies craft show such a success. As of this date, we have made $4,589 and money is still coming in. If there was something that you forgot to purchase, let one of the Crafty Ladies know, we do have some items left and will be happy to help you with your holiday shopping. There was extremely good support from the church and community and we are very grateful for each of you who baked, made items and purchased items. This money will be used for mission work for the church and community. Church Post Office: Again this year the church will have our Christmas card post office open for business beginning Sunday, December 3 rd through the end of December. If you have cards that you would like to send to church members, just drop them in the post office and we will make certain they get delivered. Please don't put any cards in the post office that would need a postage stamp - this is a hand delivery post office. Merry Christmas!
As we come to the end of 2017 I want to thank everyone who made a contribution to the various mission projects throughout the year! Without your financial and physical support this undertaking would not be possible. The Backpack program is doing very well. We help supply food for eleven children from three local elementary schools. The Crafty Ladies provide Christmas gifts for children from the three elementary schools as well. Thanks for supporting the Craft Show. The children are going to have a very merry Christmas! The CCHASM Thanksgiving Meal Program was given $1,500.00 by our church so that families had a delicious Thanksgiving meal. Thank you for your generous support. Thanks to Frank and Doris Linkous for always being generous with their time helping out at the Chesterfield Fairgrounds sorting and packing the Thanksgiving meals and their time distributing the meal kits to the families. If you are able to bring in a couple of canned goods for the St. Ann s Our Daily Bread food pantry this Christmas season it would be most appreciated! Merry Christmas, Ann McNinch Missions Don't forget our Mitten Trees! They are up and ready for decorating until December 10 th as we gather hats, scarves, socks and undies for our local schools. (Please note that there is a need for more mittens, socks, and undies!) Be sure to add these items to your shopping list. There is a Mitten Tree outside of the church office and a smaller Mitten Tree in the Fellowship Hall.
We finished up with our Operation Christmas Child shoebox collection on November 19, with 119 boxes delivered to the drop-off center! Three members of the youth group also volunteered at the drop-off center for a two-hour shift, helping to collect and sort shoeboxes brought to the center. On November 12, the youth participated in a shoebox packing party where they packed 70 shoeboxes. This year I was able to use the "Follow-Your-Box" labels for 74 of our shoeboxes and I can tell you that our boxes are already on their way to Swaziland (southern Africa), the Philippines, Grenada and a "hard to reach" area--this means that there is unrest or conflict in the country where those boxes are going, so they do not release the name of the country. Thanks to everyone who participated in any way with Operation Christmas Child, 119 children will receive a shoebox gift and learn that Jesus loves them! -Jessica Mathis Operation Christmas Child
United Methodist Women At the November meeting our program was dedicated to the World Thank Offering program of the United Methodist Women. November is the time of the year that we reach out to our members to remind them of all they have to be thankful and to encourage them to share that thankfulness throughout the year with those that have less, especially children, youth and families here and around the world. Our members will be collecting their spare change for the next 11 months in their own little "change box" so that we may contribute more next year toward our mission projects sponsored through the UMW worldwide. Our October project of assembling kits for prison inmates was accomplished and delivered to the prison chaplains for distribution. We are planning a much larger project in 2018 since there are 600 inmates that need a little gift at Christmas. As part of our Social Action work, we feel this is a mission calling that we can get more involved. The UMW Annual Advent Retreat is December 2 nd at the Newsoms UMC in Newsoms, Virginia. Our speaker for the day will be Rev. Mary Alice Colwell, our District Superintendent Rob Colwell's wife. There is a group of us planning to attend. It is a wonderful opportunity to get into the spirit of the holidays and the greatest gift of the season, the birth of Jesus Christ. Our group will be celebrating the holiday season and all our accomplishments this year with a Christmas celebration at the Forbes' home on December 18 th, 6:30 pm. If you would like to know more about this celebration, please contact either Doris Morefield or Betty Forbes. The UMW will not be meeting in January or February of 2018 and resume our monthly meetings in March. We have already started our planning for the new year and will be sharing more of these plans with you as the year begins. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy season as you enjoy the holidays with family and friends. There are lots of activities happening at the church in December and we look forward to seeing you there. Doris Morefield, President Betty Forbes was thanked by the Crafty Ladies and Men for all her hard work organizing the Craft Show.
United Methodist Men The Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Men met November 21 st at the River's Bend Grill. We always meet the third Tuesday in each month and all men in the church are invited to attend. We continue to work on a number of manual labor projects such as: replacing the wood fencing around the air conditioning units with vinyl fencing and repairing damage to the wall in the men's bathroom in the church. Several projects have been completed. Representatives from the Boy Scouts attended our November meeting to discuss how we can work together on projects such as their need for a larger storage area, cleanup, etc. We look forward to working with them. If you see something that needs to be done in and around the church, please don't hesitate to let a member of the UMM know. Please mark your calendars for February 13, 2018 for the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. We encourage you to invite your friends to attend. It is a great opportunity to introduce new people to our church. Tickets will not be sold but contributions will be accepted. We appreciate your support of the November 4 th pancake supper. We netted over $300.00 to help support our many projects. We would also like to encourage you to let us know if there are needs by some of our church members who aren't feeling well or are not physically able to do manual labor around their homes. The UMM are willing to help with lawn mowing, trimming shrubs, etc. Our next meeting will be December 19 th, 6:30 pm at the River's Bend Grill. All men of the church are invited to attend and participate in our projects. We enjoy a meal together, a devotional and lots of discussion on upcoming and new projects. Without a doubt, you will enjoy the fellowship. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Mark Strickler, President
