Long Term Planning Rep. Meeting opened with a prayer at 7:20 pm. Minutes of the April, 2016 meeting were approved with no changes. PASTOR S REPORT: We express our condolences to Deacon Ken on the passing of his sister. Work is continuing on the parish budget for FY 2016-2017. A number of cuts or reductions have been required in order to make it balance, plus other factors have to be taken into account (e.g., we may not save on heating costs by having a second mild winter in a row, we ll miss a Sunday collection because Christmas falls on a Sunday, etc.). The Finance Council will be meeting next Tuesday to give final approval to the budget. A metal recycling bin will once again be here for a week, beginning Monday May 16. The school s spring musical, The Lion King, will be held this Wednesday and Thursday evening; there was a nice write-up in The Bay Voice. Last week I had the opportunity to make the Holy Door Pilgrimage at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. It s very well-designed and spiritually worthwhile, and I would recommend it to anyone who has the chance to go there. Deacon David Tomaszycki will be ordained at the Cathedral on Saturday May 14 (10am), and he will have his Masses of Thanksgiving here on the following day, Sunday May 15, at 8am and 12 noon. Preparations continue for Synod 16. Our parish will hold two dialogue meetings; Wednesday May 18 at 6:30 pm, and Saturday May 21 at 9 am. Everyone on the parish council and various commissions is asked to attend one of them. A flyer giving more information will be inserted in this weekend s bulletin. We had five representatives at the Amazing Parish conference held downtown two weeks ago (Deacon Ken, Tina Kovalcik, Amy O Gara, Rick Rhein, and myself). There were almost 100 persons present, from 176 parishes in he Archdiocese, and from other places as well, including Ontario, Washington D.C., Ohio, and various other states. As a follow-up, we are forming a leadership team (mainly those who attended), and are beginning to discuss ideas and set priorities (one of which, for example, is to make the parish more hospitable to visitors at weekend Masses). More information will be given in the coming months. Immaculate Conception Parish Council Minutes May 2016 Page 1
