Throughout the history of God s people there have been callings by God to serve. In the book of Exodus chapter 35 verses 10-35 we read of God s call for volunteers to help with the construction tabernacle, the holy tent that His people would use for worship and education for many years until the temple was constructed in the promised land in the city of Jerusalem. There were many ways the people could serve, but even those who could not serve contributed in other ways with their material goods or their encouragement. It was an amazing time of joy and growth among God s people. What does that have to do with you and me in 2018 at St Anthony? God is making a similar call to you and me today. Today s call is for CATECHISTS. A Catechist is a person who hears and accepts God s call to teach others, in our case right now, the youth of our parish. At other times we have need of volunteers to help our RCIA team. And from time to time we have need of adults to serve as small group leaders in adult bible studies. We have a great need of both people who are willing to use their time and talents to serve others. Pope Francis, in his encyclical, Joy Gospel reminds us, Even if it is not always easy to approach young people, progress has been made in two areas: the awareness that the entire community is called to evangelize and educate the young, and the urgent need for the young to exercise greater leadership. (106) Our June Catechist meeting is Monday, June 18, at 6PM in the lower church. I encourage you to pray today, to ask God if He is calling you to be a Catechist. Remember that God does not always call the qualified, but He qualifies the called. Even in our example from Exodus we read: Moses said to the Israelites: See, the Lord has singled out Bezalel, son of Uri, son of Hur, tribe of Judah, and has filled him with a divine spirit of skill and understanding and knowledge in every craft: in the production of embroidery, in making things of gold, silver, or bronze, in cutting and mounting precious stones, in carving wood, and in every other craft. He has also given both him and Oholiab, son of Ahisamach, tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. He has endowed them with skill to execute all types of work: engraving, embroidering, the making of variegated cloth of violet, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen thread, weaving, and all other arts and crafts. Both Bezalel and Oholiab did not start out as experts, GOD filled them with the ability both to WORK and to TEACH! What was needed was a spirit of WILLINGNESS to respond to God s call. If you have that desire to help and work with youth I encourage you attend this meeting on Monday. Trust in the Holy Spirit to take care rest. Please pray after you read this column for an increase in vocations of Catechists in our parish! I look forward to working with all of you, seasoned catechists, as well as the new Catechists the Lord provides. Do not forget that our Master, Jesus, is in charge of this work, and He appreciates your response and dedication to His call. God is not unfair. He will not forget the work you did or the love you showed for him in the help you gave and are still giving to other Christians. (Heb 6:10) Your Fellow worker in Christ, Chris

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo Dear Parishioners, On behalf of Fr. Gehler, Fr. Reynaldo and myself Happy Father s Day. I ran across the following meditation: Happy Father s Day At the age of 4 years: My Daddy can do anything! 7 years: My Dad knows a lot...a whole lot. 8 years: My father does not know quite everything. 12 years: Oh well, naturally Father does not know that either. 14 years: Oh, Father? He is hopelessly old-fashioned. 21 years: Oh, that man-he is out of date! 25 years: He knows a little bit about it, but not much. 30 years: I must find out what Dad thinks about it. 35 years: Before we decide, we will get Dad s idea first. 50 years: What would Dad have thought about that? 60 years: My Dad knew literally everything! 65 years: I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more! Remember the informational meeting is this week for our upcoming Italy pilgrimage. The meeting will be Wed. June 20th at 6:30pm in the lower church. The pilgrimage will highlight some famous shrines of Italy, including St. Anthony in Padua. The trip dates are Feb. 11-21, 2019. A Prayer for Safe Travels God's Angels guard and keep you All the way that you must travel Till earth's days are past When blossoms fade and Time is fleeting fast In times of purest joy Or pain and fear God's Angels guard And keep you safe. Amen Blessings, ADA Update Congratulations we have made our goal. Thank you to all who stepped up and generously gave the Annual Diocesan Appeal. Be proud of St. Anthony parish. I know I am proud of you! Msgr. Chiodo Notes from the Parish Office School Office Hours are from 7:45am-3:45pm Monday- Friday through the School year and closed on Holidays.
