The Walder Education Pavilion of Torah Umesorah Presents a Workshop for 1st-8th Grade Chumash Classroom and Resource Teachers Judaic Studies: Chumash, Comprehension, and Bloom s Taxonomy Wednesday, May 23 rd, 7:00-9:00 PM Given by Rabbi Dr. Aharon H. Fried Professor of Education Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University Clearly any learning devoid of knowledge and comprehension is not learning (Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk). Real comprehension is arrived at only when a mind is troubled with a question or problem and discovers an answer to the question or a solution to the problem. In this workshop, an approach will be presented to teaching Chumash and its commentaries in a way that ignites and involves children s minds and invites them into the conversation that Torah scholars have been having with the Chumash since we received it. The workshop will present clear objectives for building Chumash comprehension skills as well as an approach using questioning techniques to help our students to attain those objectives with the ultimate goal being their ability to independently learn and ask questions. This workshop will help us teach a Living Torah, one in which students will become involved, immersed, and excited about. 8150 McCormick Blvd. 2 nd Floor Skokie IL 60076 Ph: 847-674-0800 F: 847-674-1188 teacherscenter@waldereducation.org Please call 847-674-0800 to register.
