1 ) This plan takes the Torah and Haftarah cycle as the foundation for reading entire Bible. Torah and Haftarah readings follow the one-year Jewish and Messianic divisions, with Torah readings divided into daily portions and Haftarah readings occurring on Shabbat. (Note that chapter and verse designations are according to the Christian rather than Jewish numbering.) Torah and Haftarah readings for the Moedim (Feasts of the Lord) appear in italics. Readings for the rest of the Tanakh (Old Testament) and Apostolic Writings (New Testament) proceed through a daily plan that covers all of those Scriptures over the course of the year. The first weekly readings for 5779 correspond to the final weekly readings of the previous cycle, which is why this plan begins with the last chapters of both the Tanakh and Apostolic Writings. This year is also a leap year on the Hebrew (Jewish) calendar, which means there is a thirteenth month, called Adar II, added in the winter, just before the month of Nisan B Reisheet (In the Beginning) 30 September-6 October 2018 (21-27 Tishrei 5779) 2 30 Sep 18 Numbers 29:26-40 Habakkuk 1:1-3:19 Revelation 16: Oct 18 Deuteronomy 14:22-16:17 Zephaniah 1:1-Haggai 2:23 Revelation 17: Oct 18 Deuteronomy 33:1-34:12 Zechariah 1:1-5:11 Revelation 18: Oct 18 Genesis 1:1-2:19 Zechariah 6:1-9:17 Revelation 19: Oct 18 Genesis 2:20-4:18 Zechariah 10:1-14:21 Revelation 20: Oct 18 Genesis 4:19-5:24 Malachi 1:1-4:6 Revelation 21: Oct 18 Genesis 5:25-6:8 Isaiah 42:5-43:10 Revelation 22: Noach (Rest) 7-13 October 2018 (28 Tishrei-4 Cheshvan Oct 18 Genesis 6:9-22 Joshua 1:1-3:6 Matthew 1: Oct 18 Genesis 7:1-16 Joshua 3:7-5:15 Matthew 2: Oct 18 Genesis 7:17-8:14 Joshua 6:1-7:26 Matthew 3: Oct 18 Genesis 8:15-9:7 Joshua 8:1-9:27 Matthew 4: Oct 18 Genesis 9:8-17 Joshua 10:1-11:9 Matthew 5: Oct 18 Genesis 9:18-10:32 Joshua 11:10-13:14 Matthew 5: Oct 18 Genesis 11:1-32 Isaiah 54:1-55:5 Matthew 6: Lech L Cha (Get Yourself) October 2018 (5-11 Cheshvan 5779) 14 Oct 18 Genesis 12:1-13 Joshua 13:15-15:20 Matthew 6: Oct 18 Genesis 12:14-13:4 Joshua 15:21-17:6 Matthew 7: Oct 18 Genesis 13:5-18 Joshua 17:7-19:23 Matthew 8: Oct 18 Genesis 14:1-20 Joshua 19:24-21:19 Matthew 8: Oct 18 Genesis 14:21-15:6 Joshua 21:20-22:34 Matthew 9: Oct 18 Genesis 15:7-17:6 Joshua 23:1-24:33 Matthew 9: Oct 18 Genesis 17:7-27 Isaiah 40:27-41:16 Matthew 10: For more information on the Hebrew (Jewish) calendar, visit Hebcal ( 2 Simchat Torah (Rejoicing in the Torah) is sundown October 1 to sundown October 2. Two special customary readings occur on Shabbat, December 8. Since it is the Shabbat during Chanukah, the reading is Zechariah 2:10-4:7, the prophet s vision of the menorah in the heavenly Temple. Also, as the first day of the month of Tevet (Rosh Chodesh Tevet), it is customary to read Numbers 28:9-15, which explains the offerings given on the new moon (first day of the month, or Rosh Chodesh) 3
