THANKSGIVING AT DIVINE INFANT Mass of Thanksgiving at 9:00 a.m. Donations to Saint Vincent De Paul Society Please bring a monetary donation and / or nonperishable food items with you to Church Thanksgiving Morning. These donations will go to the St. Vincent De Paul Society who aid the hungry of our area. Please, DO NOT leave food in the normal containers in the vestibule, but keep it with you in the pew. During Mass, after the regular collection, we will all be invited to bring our gifts (food) to the Altar. This beautiful procession will strongly symbolize our willingness to share our gifts with one another, and that the hungry and less fortunate hold an important place in our hearts. RECTORY OFFICE CLOSED The rectory office will be closed on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th for the Thanksgiving holiday. Happy Thanksgiving! The Divine Infant Liturgy Committee. GIVING TREE Hopefully you've noticed the Giving Tree for St. Martin de Porres Parish in the vestibule of the Church. Please take an ornament with the age of the recipient on it, fill in the size if applicable, and return the wrapped package to the vestibule by Sunday December 11th. Due to the increased need, we are concentrating on the younger age groups this year. Thank you for your generosity! THANKSGIVING PRAYER Good and gracious God, we come before you today united with all who give You thanks and praise. Fill us with gratitude and Your many blessings. We thank you in particular this day for the gifts of food and family. Bless this food, Lord, that it may nourish our bodies. Bless our family, especially those who cannot be with us today. Also, today we remember those of our family who have gone to be with You. Grant us Your spiritual blessings and help us pray daily for the grace to serve You in response to Your bountiful gifts to us. Bless all who serve You throughout the world. We pray this in the name of Jesus, Your Son, our Lord, who gives all things freely according to our needs. Continue to bless us and give us Your Peace. Amen. THANKSGIVING THE FORGOTTEN HOLIDAY The world that we live in seems to have no time to stop and be thankful for what we have in our lives. We are constantly running around in circles, whether it be working long hours, rushing to get home and pick up the children and then quickly make dinner, only to rush off again to attend a soccer game, swim meet, dance recital, etc. Let s not forget the stress that builds up because we forgot to pay our bills on time, we are running late for work, school or even a simple lunch date, or the car breaks down at the most inappropriate time. This all leads to anxiety disorders, hypertension, panic attacks and insomnia. The quick fix is to run to the doctor s office and get a prescription for anxiety, hypertension, panic attacks or insomnia. Or perhaps we just continue to deal with the stress in our lives and pretend it does not exist. If we make the choice to just deal with these issues, we are headed for disaster. Illness will eventually strike us down and literally force us to stop. This all leads me to one of the most beautiful and sacred holiday s that our country has given us. Thanksgiving. A day for family to come together to celebrate the abundance in life that they have received. A day for family to be thankful for one another. A day for all of us to ground ourselves to our roots; past, present and future. A day for everyone to simply stop and be still. Be still and listen. Listen to one another and listen to God speaking to us through one another. Thanksgiving is not a day to rush out after dinner even before the food in our bellies has settled and fight to the death to seek out the great Christmas bargains. If we make this choice, we have traded tranquility in for tension, stress and anger, as we someone else grab the very last Suzy Snowflake doll that was on sale. When we get home we realize that we have a headache (hypertension?) and we cannot fall asleep because we are too focused on what we should of or could of purchased. Christmas shopping can wait. What cannot wait is quality time spent with family and friends. What cannot wait is our health and well-being. A simple fix for anxiety, hypertension and insomnia can very well be time spent with family or if Aunt Mary is too much to handle, simply spend quiet time talking and listening to God. Wouldn t it be nice to just embrace Thanksgiving Day once again! No other agenda other than to be with family, friends and God. Our bodies will thank us! Blessings, Jeannette Barczak Parish Nurse

BAPTIZED Kevin Robert, III son Kevin and Briana (Casey) Kaczmarek Silvio Joseph, son of Thomas and Alyssa (Zymali) Scatchell Lauren Kathleen, daughter of Kevin and Colleen (Flannery) Seal Riley Mae, daughter of David and Christy (Goodwin) Vavken JUBILEE YEAR OF MERCY Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe Jubilee Year Ends Today Luke, evangelist and by tradition artist, sends us forth from this Jubilee Year of Mercy with an unforgettable portrait of Christ the King. The setting for Jesus' "royal portrait" is the cross. From this "throne," the crucified "crown prince" welcomes by "executive pardon" the kingdom of mercy's first citizen, a fellow criminal. The "Good Thief" requests neither deliverance nor salvation, or even forgiveness: "Remember me when..." (Luke 23:42). "Today you will be with me," King Jesus promises, "in paradise." (23:43). Paradise, even for nonbelievers, is an image of creation contentedly in harmony with self, fellow creatures, and Creator. Today, we "good thieves" beg Jesus to remember us. We promise to remember that, although Jesus' kingdom will be fulfilled only when Jesus' returns, that kingdom begins today in the paradise that will flower from this Jubilee Year of Mercy. We disciples, having been embraced unconditionally and undeservedly by Jesus' mercy, must now go forth to embrace all others, unconditionally, with that same unfailing mercy. --Peter Scagnelli, Copyright (c) J. INTERFAITH CAREER NETWORK Understanding the Hidden Job Market Please join the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Chicago for our Inaugural Jingle Bell Walk on Saturday, December 3, 2016. In its first year, we are expecting over 1,000 walkers to join in the holiday cheer. The Jingle Bell Walk will feature a 3K through Lincoln Park with choirs caroling along the way, hot chocolate and fresh cookies, kid's crafts, a special visit from Santa, and view of the zoo and city holiday lights. Net proceeds will go to alleviating poverty among the poor, cold and hungry during the holiday season. Many people have heard of the hidden job market, but very few understand how it works - until now. If you are in a job search, Interfaith Career Network invites you to join us on Thursday, December 1 from 7-9 pm. You'll learn what the hidden job market is and why it exists, how it works and why it does. Plus, proven strategies for breaking into the hidden job market and getting hired. Our speaker, Tom Nosal, is a career and management coach and the President of Scaling Up, Inc. He has over twenty years of experience as a hiring manager using the hidden job market exclusively to hire employees and to find employment for himself. Tom is also the author of the book Scaling Up Your Job Search: Three Strategic Steps to Landing Your Ideal Job. We hope to see you at St. John of the Cross Parish Center, 5005 S. Wolf Road in Western Springs. This meeting is open to everyone and there is no cost to attend. ICN offers job support through various programs throughout the month.
