Page 3 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ - June 3, 2018 A Message from Fr. Bob Dear Parishioners and Friends: I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful week and are excited about the relaxing summer months ahead. It is always a pleasure to see your smiling faces here at Mass on the weekends. A special welcome to all those who are visi ng or new to our parish community. This weekend, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Many of you might recall this also being called the Feast of Corpus Chris. In today s Gospel, Mark reminds us how Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it gave it to them and said, Take this; this is my body. As Catholics, we believe that Jesus is truly present in the Body and Precious Blood each me we receive. And, in doing so, we are invited to share in the Kingdom of God. The celebra on of the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Catholic faith. I invite each of you to reflect on how sacred and special it is to receive the gi of Jesus through the Eucharist, and how you might share Christ s message with others a er you leave Mass filled with Christ s love. This month, several priests are kind enough to help out our parish community by celebra ng Masses un l our new Associate arrives. The guest priests include: Fr. Bill Faiella, Fr. Joe Hennessy, Fr. Pierre Hissey, and Fr. Jim Blantz. I deeply appreciate their willingness to give of their me for us and I have no doubt that you will gladly give each of them a warm welcome as they arrive each week. Now that June is here, many of our local schools have finished for the year and the kids are eager to begin summer break! Let us pray that God will keep all of the children and their families safe and healthy throughout the summer months. For all those planning to travel and escape the heat, we wish you safe travels and look forward to seeing you again when you return. Wishing you all a blessed and frui ul week. Please con nue to keep me in your prayers, and know that you are loved and appreciated. Fr. Bob

Some of Christ s last words on earth were, Go and make disciples of all na ons (Ma hew 28:19). You can fulfill this call by becoming one of the many needed volunteers for the various religious educa on programs that we offer. A variety of me commitments and age groups are available to serve, all you need is a willingness to share your faith! The children and teens of our parish appreciate the me and a en on they are given, and being a Catechist is always a rewarding experience. For more informa on, or to volunteer, please contact David Rees at drees@stbenedict.org or Heather Mooney at hmooney@stbenedict.org Spiritual Reflec ons Brace Yourself! There will always be people who have hurt us in ways that have le scars on our soul, s rred our anger, and triggered a desire to punish. It s a reac on we share with our animal forebears, a reac on which was honed to an admirable virtue in both males and females for centuries. It was called the lex talionis, quid pro quo. The desire is natural insofar as we are undeniably animal. But humanity places a curb on that blind need for revenge. And Jesus goes even further; he asks us to do good to those who are mean to us. Brace yourself. Here is a key to the kingdom of heaven: But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you Be merciful, just as your heavenly Father is merciful. ~ Luke 6:27-31, 36 William O Malley, SJ Shop for Father s Day at h p://smile.amazon.com/ ch/35-2350484 and Amazon will donate to us!
