Beginning with the blessing of palms and the reading of the Passion today, we enter a week of prayer and devotion as we journey with Jesus through the significant moments leading to his death and resurrection. Holy Thursday Every Year on Holy Thursday, the priests of the Archdiocese gather with the Archbishop at the cathedral to celebrate the Chrism Mass. In this Mass, we renew our priestly promises and receive the new Holy Oils for sacramental use in our parish for the coming year. At 7:00 PM we will celebrate the Mass of the Lord s Supper where we commemorate the institution of the Sacraments of Holy Orders and the Holy Eucharist. This Mass will be multi-lingual representing all of our worshiping communities. Good Friday On Good Friday we will celebrate the Passion of our Lord. Holy Saturday ~ Easter Vigil The Easter Vigil will be celebrated by all the communities in the parish. It will begin outside with the blessing of the fire. In this Mass we also welcome our newest members who receive the Easter Sacraments. The story it tells is one of betrayal, denials, pain, extreme suffering and eventually, death. If it is heard without faith, it would leave one hopeless. Yet, hearing it, believing in Jesus' resurrection, it is clear how God works through human history and in our human lives. There are many people mentioned in the gospel today. All have a part to play as instruments, for better or for worse, in our salvation. There is Judas who appears to be so greedy that for a few pieces of silver, he is willing to betray Jesus. There is the woman who uses costly oil to anoint Jesus feet and in a real way, prepare him for burial. She is thought to be Mary Magdalene, known as a great sinner. There are the twelve disciples who are more worried about what Jesus thinks of them when he says one of them will betray him. There are his three closest, Peter, James and John who sleep as He goes through his agony. Jesus is arrested. Peter denies he knows Him. Pilate knows Jesus is innocent but is afraid of losing his position and power. The chief priests and scribes are threatened by His teaching and conspire against him. Most of the people in the crowd probably don't even know who Jesus is or what he taught and are calling for his death. Simon, a passerby, is made to help Jesus carry his cross. Two thieves are crucified with him- one believes while the other seeks no redemption. Some brave men and women stay with Him until the end. Where are we in the story as we hear it? Depending on the day we could put ourselves in almost every character. Some days we are great Christians. Other days, we are too busy to care. Our actions sometimes deny Christ and in other circumstances we will never leave him. This final week of Lent is an excellent time for us to reflect- which character are we most of the time and what are we going to do about it.

Please pray for the following people who will be receiving Sacraments of Initiation at Easter time here at St. Williams. Papa Francisco 2013
