EASTER JOY We have all gone through trying, hard, discouraging, as well as happy and memorable moments in our lives. Sometime life is a cycle of events, just like the seasons of the year. As Joseph and Nicodemus carried the Sacred Body of Jesus, nothing could console them. Even the blooming of the flowers or singing of the birds around them all seemed a mockery and totally out of place. But forty hours later, on Easter morning, the opposite is true! The good news of Christ s resurrection for every woman and man and child on the face of the earth! Christ s resurrection is not a mere historical event that could easily fade away, but His rising transcends history; it is as immediate and fresh today as on that first day. God has intervened in a dramatic way. As the Exsultet at the Easter Vigil proclaims, The power of this holy night dispels all evil, washes guilt away, restores lost innocence, and brings mourners joy. In short, everything has been made new and there should be no more sorrow. So we live the mystery. We have been raised with Christ (Col. 3.14) and yet we will still suffer and bear crosses. But the power of the resurrection is not empty; it gives our sufferings a new light and meaning. We no longer grieve as others do, but we have hope; thus, as the power of resurrection grows in us, our sufferings seem ever smaller. This Easter, let us make some resolutions and take a step towards walking in the newness of life. Then we will know the only lasting joy in life, the joy that no one can take away from us, the joy of knowing that Christ s victory is our victory. Despite all of our daily challenges, sufferings, fear, hatred, addictions--all of it, then, flies like darkness before the rising Sun that is Christ Jesus risen from the dead. Therefore, no temptation, no sorrow, no loss or setback is too much for us--we have the life of Christ in us. Rejoice, Christ is truly risen! Alleluia! ~ Fr. Kisaka
