Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, As they enter the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. Don t be alarmed, he said. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you. (Mark 16:5-7) Jesus is risen indeed! Alleluia! Easter is the oldest and the most significant celebration of Christianity. It is the day that our Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead and conquered death itself. It is the day that Jesus delivers hope to those who are hopeless, a day that we walk from darkness into light, a day that humanity is restored the gift of eternal life through the death and resurrection of Jesus. All in all, it is a period of tremendous grace, a turning point of humanity from death into life. In the Western Church, Easter is celebrated between March 21st and April 25th, on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the northern spring equinox. Jesus resurrection did not save just those who lived in His era, but those who lived before and after Him for he dies once for all. Jesus intends to save everyone throughout all generations by establishing a visible Church so that everyone can come and receive His teaching from her. During the time of Jesus ministry, He chose humans (twelve apostles) to carry out His redemptive act and appointed Peter as the visible head of His Church (Mathew 16:18, John 20:23). After resurrection he appeared to the Apostles and granted them the gift of the Holy Spirit as well as the authority to forgive sin (John 20:20-25). Later, he appeared to them again and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Mathew 28:18-20). Knowing that Jesus continues to live in His Church; we are blessed to continue to hold fast to Jesus teachings that He passed on to the apostles. We as an apostolic Church continue to hold on to those marks when we profess our faith: One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic. Every time we celebrate Mass, we truly participate and relive the paschal mystery (life, death and resurrection) of our Lord. Easter Mass is the most significant celebration of all Masses for if Jesus didn t rise from the dead then our belief will be in vain. Therefore, let s celebrate Easter with our deepest faith, love and gratefulness to Jesus our Lord, for He is truly conquered death so that those who believe and follow Him will have eternal life. May we be always faithful to the Church that Jesus instituted. Also, may we come to realize how much Jesus loves us and the gift of salvation that He prepares for us through His death and resurrection. Have a blessed and joyful Easter with your loved ones! God bless, Fr. Andrew Vu Nguyen

VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY For emergency financial assistance, call the parish office for an appointment CATECHESIS FOR ELEMENTARY CHILDREN THROUGH THE MASS Once our children enters school, teaching them changes, they learn differently rapidly absorbing everything. When making this transition, we think our faith should to be learned in the same way we approach other subjects--resist this! Faith isn t taught through a book or a class but by example and mentoring. This is the perfect age to begin teaching the deeper concepts and truths of our faith. Our focus needs to be on continuing to teach our children about having a relationship with Jesus and deepening their understanding of the Mass. Only then are they able to prepare to receive His sacraments. We know our children, we watch how active they are during Mass, we see if they pray, and how they love Jesus. Do we notice these in our children? If so they are ready for sacraments. Introduce a Mass Book, or consider a subscription like Magnifikid for during the elementary school years. They are used for following along and assist in learning about what is going during Mass. Our children learn to love Jesus, the Church and Mass by practicing prayer together at home. Many of us pray before meals and before bedtime, both of which are wonderful! Other ways we can bring the faith home are by praying when in the car, choosing a time to pray specifically for friends and family, or by reading scripture. When we have conflict or hurt each other s feelings, it s also a perfect opportunity to practice prayer. When apologizing, we can pray with and for the person we re apologizing to. This can help heal wounds and foster relationships to grow in love. I hope we all bring our children to the sacraments as soon as they are ready. However, I pray that first each child knows and loves Jesus the Son before they seek and receive graces from God the Father in these wonderful sacraments. MEALS TO HEAL EXPANDS THEIR SCOPE Holy Family's "Meals to Heal" ministry offers hot meals or rides to your doctor or hospital for the sick, the homebound, and those who've recently undergone surgery. We're now offering our services to families who have had a new baby. Our members are hoping you will call. Please call Bernadette Lewis@ (408) 480-1286 or Lynn Bailey@ (408) 250-6999, if you need this assistance. We will be happy to serve you! SMALL THINGS COUNT Happy Resurrection Day! Let s share the meaning of the Event by responding to the old saying, What would Jesus do? Christ came to bring hope and peace to the world and to unify all people into one caring, loving human family. Our response must be to avoid violence in word or deed and to stand up to it in others. We must feed the hungry, house the homeless, welcome the immigrant, respect all labor, and protect children, seniors, and people who are mentally, emotionally, or physically ill. We must find common ground with others who are different from us, make peace with those we consider enemies, embrace equality of all people, and be good stewards of the Earth. That s what Jesus did in His human form. Of course, He doesn t expect anyone to accomplish all of this, only that we work toward it. Imagine if, each day, we did some small positive act or refrained from an un-christ-like act. We d be so much farther on our way to that perfect world that began on that first, glorious Easter. Call Jackie O Donnell at 622-5372 or write c/o Holy Family. Kathy Bohac

At this Mass, we have the children sing with the Seraphim choir, they are the lectors and they are the ushers. One of our parishioners, Julie Goschy-Stalions coordinates the ministers for this Mass, and trains the lectors. This role is especially important as it trains our young people to proclaim the readings. At this Mass we help our children learn that they too can be leaders in worship. I encourage you to support this ministry and encourage your children to sing in the choir. If you re interested in learning more about this ministry, please contact Julie, or let me know and I ll get you in touch with her. 6 SCHOOL NEWS Over a period of 10 weeks, girls in grades 3-6th participate in an after-school program called Girls on the Run. The girls make new friends, build their confidence and celebrate all that makes them unique. In May the girls run a 5K at Vasona Park. On Wednesday, March 14th, one month after the school shooting in Florida, our middle school students took some time out of their day to pray for and pay tribute to those who died that day.
