Our Mission: We, the faithful of St. Mary Star of the Sea, joyfully continue the mission begun in 1851. We share in Christ s ministry by proclaiming the Gospel in our thoughts, words, and deeds seeking to spread the Good News of salvation under the loving care of our Blessed Mother. Since we live in challenging times of new possibilities, we as stewards pledge to strive to provide for the spiritual and temporal needs of our people. St. Mary Star of The Sea Brooklyn The Missions are important to the health and life of our Church and they are vital to the millions of people they serve. You have always been extremely generous to the missionaries who have come and spoken to us about their work. We will welcome Fr. Vincent Chinnadurai of the Archdiocese of Madras Mylapore, India NEXT WEEKEND, July 16/17th. Father s Diocese is 1,220 square miles divided into 134 parishes with over 8,7892,000 Catholics! Their greatest concern is the Tiruvallur Mission mostly in the rural areas where the people and their living condition are poor and miserable. The Tiruvallur Mission needs development in the these areas: Evangelization, Health Care, Education, Family & the challenges it faces, Woman Empowerment, Youth Development, & Social enrichment. To carry out this mission more effectively, they need resource materials, transportation, land in these areas, & the construction of chapels, schools, clinics, etc.. We know that we are only instruments in the hands of God. Totally relying on His providence and support, we are confident to carry out this special ministry to the best of our abilities. At this moment.. Your cooperation will be our support. Your appreciation will be our consolation. Your generosity will be our strength. & Your service to Christ s Faithful will be our endeavor! GOD BLESS YOU! Catholic Charities is pleased to announce that beginning July 18, 2016, the Pierrepont House for the Elderly, a 188-unit building in Brooklyn Heights, will re-open its waiting list. To enter the lottery, applicants (or their spouse) must be 62 years or older with limited income based on Section 8 guidelines. Non-elderly persons with disabilities may also qualify. To obtain an application, please send a written application request to: Pierrepont House for the Elderly c/o POP Management Corp. 191 Joralemon Street, 8th Floor Brooklyn, NY 11201 For important details about this please take an information sheet from the back of Church! As she does each summer, my dog Sadie has important reminders for all pet owners: *Always provide PLENTY of clean, fresh water. Change the water often. Avoid allowing your dog to drink from bowls set aside in public for dogs they often carry disease. *Avoid exercise in HOT weather. Hot sidewalks can burn our paws! * Have a cool, shady spot for rest. * Baby pools filled with cool water are REFRESHING! So are ice cubes and sprinklers! * Some of us sunburn too! Please protect us with pet sun block. * Flea & tick protection is a must! ** NEVER leave us in parked cars! Temperatures can quickly exceed 120 even with the windows open! * Our ears are sensitive. PROTECT US FROM FIRE WORKS! * Extra love & treats are always welcome! See you at our St. Francis of Assisi Blessing of our Pets in October! The names of all 72 parishioners/families who pledged $298,860 will be listed in the bulletin and placed on our Announcement board in back of Church in August. Everyone should know who sacrifices for our Parish!

For a brochure call Susan @ 1-800-842-4842 Florence Cassidy Kathy Cassidy Meghan Fitzgerald Vincent Mazzone John Mavroudes Liz Mortenson Nancy Quis Louis Rispoli A Parishioner On the 2nd & 4th weekend of every month, we print the names of parishioners who are ill and in need of your prayers. Please pray for them. Thank you! Miss Collins, the dean of students at Olympic High School, was past the point of scolding Matt, though she liked him very much. Four detentions in two weeks are too many. Still Matt wouldn t tell. It was only after Miss Collins went on a morning neighborhood patrol that she found out the real reason for Matt s tardiness. Thump, thump, thump, came the wheelchair down the stairs. It was Matt, steadying Shawnetta as he helped lower her down the stairs and then push her to the corner bus stop. She s a girl in my parish youth group, Matt explained to Miss Collins. There are many ways to describe Matt s actions a random act of kindness, making a difference one person at a time. Jesus would understand. When the lawyer correctly identified the good Samaritan as the one who had treated the injured man with compassion, Jesus said simply, Go and do likewise (Lk 10:37) The collection for July 3rd Cannot be reported due to expedited bulletin. There is over $700 in back envelopes out there just from June! Please help us rebound by bringing in all your back envelopes. We must average $2,300 each week! PLEASE remember us before you leave or when you return from vacation! Thank you!

July 10, 2016 Non-Catholics are invited to join us in prayer. We kindly remind them not to come forward to receive Holy Communion. Catholics who are new to our Parish are asked to please introduce themselves to Fr. Chris after Mass. Registration may be done at the rectory during office hours or by dropping the parish membership form in the collection basket. Active parishioners are those who are registered, join us regularly for the celebration of the Mass and use the weekly donation envelopes. Only in this way can we issue documents attesting to Parish Membership and Catholic practice.
