CONCORDIA LUTHERAN CHURCH LOST. FOUND. FORMED. FOR SERVICE. 1 FOURTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST August 26, 2018 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things! -Psalm 98:1a AS WE GATHER (prepared by Jim Gann) As Lutherans, we believe that we cannot by our own reason, strength, or will come to belief in Christ Jesus; nor can we simply choose to come to Him. Just as God chose Israel as His people, God chose the Christian Church. Also, God chose us, not we Him. This is so important! You see, we must understand the proper relationship we have with God. He reaches out to His people with Grace. He sent His Son to us, so that Jesus atoning sacrifice would once and for all redeem us; we, who would otherwise be lost and condemned to eternal death. Why did He do these things for us? Not because we could possibly earn salvation, and certainly not because we deserve salvation. God did these things for us because He loves us. CALL TO WORSHIP and PASSING OF THE PEACE (Please stand) RINGING OF THE BELLS OPENING HYMN #803 Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee

Please forgive us and draw us near so that we may live lives that praise Your holy name. Amen. Pastor: Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. This do in remembrance of Me. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.
