TWENTIETH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 19, 2018 Dear Friends, In this time, I have often reflected on the great brokenness in our world: the pain, anguish, and suffering seems to be everywhere in today s day and age. For many, when these hurts come, the most likely response is that we wall of this area in our own interior life. In other words, we try to bury these wounds and avoid anything that may cause them to hurt once more. Jesus, however, calls us to something more. When he began his public ministry, he preached in his hometown reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord. Rolling up the scroll, he handed it back to the attendant and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue looked intently at him. He said to them, Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing. (Luke 4: 18-21, emphasis mine). Proclaiming liberty to captives is something we may not often think of, yet Christ himself wishes to heal us and strengthen us, freeing us from these wounds that have become anchors and obsticales. In the diary of St. Faustina, in which she communicates the message of Divine Mercy she received from Jesus and was given to the Church in full by St. John Paul II in the year 2000, Our Lord says this in how he communicates with a suffering soul: Jesus: Poor soul, I see that you suffer much and that you do not have even the strength to converse with me. So I will speak to you. Even though your sufferings were very great, do not lose heart or give in to despondency. But tell Me, my child, who has dared to wound your heart? Tell me about everything, be sincere in dealing with Me, reveal all the wounds of your heart. I will heal them, and your suffering will become a source of your sanctification. (Bolded text words of Jesus)1 While many of us see that word suffering and recoil, we must remember that Jesus is speaking here of what we are already suffering. In this light, let us entrust ourselves to this healing mercy of Jesus, our savior, and find healing in the Lord who walks with us always. God Bless, Fr. Jim 1 Kowalska, Saint Maria Faus na. Diary of Saint Maria Faus na Kowalska: Divine Mercy in My Soul, #1487. Marian Press. Kindle Edi on. I wish to say Thank You to everyone for the donations made for both the chimney and the ramp outside the Fr. Kerrigan Center. Both have recently been completed. If you look at our Chimney outside, you will now see a cap on it that should help in the winter months to avoid the heat going out. Also, you can see the ramp on the far left hand side of the Parish Center, in which the pavement will be made level with the ramp very soon. Thank you again for the great gift you made to our Parish Community! Fr. Jim Sign up for Fall Festival Chile Challenge and Corn Hole Tournament. We also need parishioners willing to bake for the bake sale table. Please sign up at the entrances of the church. Thank you for your support!! 20 th Sunday in Ordinary Time Watch carefully then how you live, not as foolish persons but as wise (EPHESIANS 5:15) A wise person recognizes that all we have and all we are comes from God. A wise person thanks God continually throughout the day for all His many blessings. A wise person realizes that God has blessed us for a reason and that He wants us to help Him build His kingdom of earth.
