4th Degree Knights of Columbus Simon Fraser Province BC and Yukon Page 3 District 4 th Degree District Master Simon Fraser Province British Columbia and Yukon District Message from the Master Wil Wilmot Master January 4, 2015 District Master Wil Wilmot became a member of the Knights of Columbus with Council 1256 in Victoria January, 1989 and in July 1989 was elected as Deputy Grand Knight. The subsequent year he served the Council as Grand Knight. In 1991 employment caused a re-location to Montreal and a transfer to Council 6096, Pointe Claire; serving that Council as a Trustee. On return to Victoria in 1993 Wil transferred membership to Langford Council 8394 and has served that Council as Chancellor and Grand Knight, as well as membership and council directors. He also was the Council s newsletter editor for seven years. In 1999, Wil was selected by State Deputy Joseph Fowlie as Grand Knight of the Year and was asked to become District Deputy in District #1 and following three years as DD#1 served the State Council as Family Director (2 years) and Program Director (1 year). Wil was elected to the Office of State Warden in 2005 and has continued as a member of the State Executive serving as State Advocate (1 term), State Treasurer (2 terms) and State Secretary (2 terms) and finally State Deputy for two terms. He was appointed Master of the 4th Degree for British Columbia and Yukon September 2014 and is looking forward to continuing his service to the Order and in particular the membership across our jurisdiction. Wil served in the Canadian Navy for 34 years retiring as a Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class in October 2002. After four years of rest relaxation and volunteer work he returned to full time employment as a Quality Assurance Technician with the Department of National Defense. Wil and the late Val Wilmot were married for 41 years and raised two outstanding sons. Wil is the proud Granddad to four beautiful grandchildren. Worthy Sir Knights and families: I hope that each of you spent a most enjoyable Christmas with family and friends and that during the midst of celebrations you took time to reflect on the solemnity of the occasion. I offer to each of you my best wishes for a healthy, prosperous and successful 2015. Due to a number of issues our 4 th Degree Fraternal Year got off to a slow and somewhat bumpy start, however many of these issues have now be resolved and we can move forward in a more orderly fashion. One of my goals as Master is to encourage and improve our lines of communication and to promote more flow of information among our Assemblies. I hope that through the publication of this periodical 4 th Degree Newsletter we can achieve some measure of success in that regard. I wish to thank Sir Knight Edgar Ursua for taking on this task and I encourage all to submit their stories and photos to Sir Knight Edgar. I would also invite all Assemblies to include Sir Knight Edgar in your mailing lists for Assembly newsletters. We have two exemplifications planned for the spring; 28 March in Richmond and 09 May in Victoria and there are a few more in the early planning stages. Once our plans have solidified the dates and locations will be published. Please visit the State website for details. We are also busy with preparation for Convention. The 3 rd degree Convention 1 st Call packages are already on the street and shortly Assemblies will be receiving 4 th Degree and Convention registration packages. There are a number of time sensitive forms and reports that are required and I urge all to complete and submit those forms as early as possible. Please remember to make submission for all of the 4 th Degree Awards and thus recognize the hard work and dedication of the members of your Assembly. Once again Best Wishes for the coming year and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at events over the next few months. Fraternally, Vivat Jesus Viva Cristo Rey - Wil 3 4

Bishop Demers Assembly 3364 VICTORIA Faithful Navigator ROLAND WAUTHY Bishop Demers Assembly 3364 VICTORIA Faithful Navigator ROLAND WAUTHY Profile - Bishop Demers Assembly 3364 Perez De Tagle Family Assembly 3364 Family of the Year Award Bishop Demers Assembly 3364 was established in Greater Victoria, B.C. through the untiring efforts of Sir Knight Roland Wauthy, who is currently the Assembly s Faithful Navigator. It was named in honor of the first Bishop of Victoria, Modeste Demers (1809-1871); and chartered on July 4th, 2012 by the Supreme council. The new Assembly had 48 charter members, of which 20 were new members from the March 17, 2012 exemplification. Bishop Demers' motto is Fides, which means Faith. The Assembly s Chaplain is Rev. Fr. Al Alilio, pastor of Sacred Heart Church. Since its establishment, the Bishop Demers Assembly has exemplified 31 new members on Feb. 23, 2013 and an additional 8 members on May 11, 2013. Last July 25th, a special exemplification admitted two seminarians, one deacon and one priest to the Assembly, which presently has 94 members. The Assembly has 25 members of the Honor Guard under worthy Commander Eugene Ciunyk, active at K of C funerals, ordinations, ordination anniversaries, etc. The Assembly s activities are very varied. There are joint activities with the Father Brabant Assembly # 32, such as International Night, Christmas Party and Bar-B-Q picnics; there are social activities, such as pot-luck parties and picnics; and fund-raising events throughout the year. The Assembly s Socials Committee under SK Dr. Oscar Perez de Tagle started a Knights & Ladies Choir, which now perform at K of C Assembly & Council events and at Victoria Senior Citizen s Homes. The 40 Days of Life committee under SK Alex Berns mobilizes our visible opposition to abortion. SK Capt. Bruce McKay heads the fund-raising for a specific cause & diocese in Nigeria. We pray a chaplet of the Divine Mercy before each monthly meeting; and meeting attendance never dips below 30 members. There is great enthusiasm among the members and many new ideas for activities and events, guided by our Faithful Navigator. 27 28
