Q13 Tell us about anything significant that you did or learned, or which worked, this Christmas, that might benefit others... Answered: 13 Skipped: 25 # Date 1 Christmas Eve family service has been increasing in numbers over the last 5 years. But also to 1/30/2013 2:39 PM remember that some parents still bring children to Christmas day service 2 For children's services we have found parents do not want videos or other gimmicks - they want the 1/28/2013 5:18 PM children to hear the scripture story read and sing carols; we also have a craft activity s they take home something they have made. 3 Invested in good quality visuals - i.e. Large and impressive Christmas trees and nativity sets for both 1/17/2013 12:49 AM churches. Better quality of music on offer this year. 4 We are planning to undertake more street advertising in 2013,as well as more on-site activities and 1/16/2013 1:51 PM advertising. 5 Let interested peole in the congregtion take plenty of responsibility with Christms servives, 1/16/2013 6:48 AM 6 Two special additional carol services in nursing homes where we usually have a communion service - 1/16/2013 1:12 AM much appreciated by nursing homes and our musicians 7 Playgroup breakup was Sun Dec 9 and part of that was in the church. Having experienced that, a 1/15/2013 11:00 PM number of families came back for Christmas Eve. 8 Involve the wider community. Be inclusive. Focus on simplicity and brevity. Make good use of our 1/15/2013 10:28 PM tradition. It's who we are and we do it best. 9 we did messy Xmas on Christmas eve: impromptu nativity play involving all cildren followed by making 1/15/2013 10:19 PM Christingles two weeks before that we had a non-liturgical carol-singing: no prayers, no readings, just introductory comments about the carols. well-received by the unchurched guests 10 People here on holiday love the traditional service at midnight. 1/15/2013 10:18 PM 11 Holy Communion is not so special to people. The Crib Service is the laregest service we have all year, 1/15/2013 9:58 PM but not everyone is a child or accompanies a child. 12 We used a You tube video called Nativity at the Children's Service, it was made by kids in NZ and it was 1/15/2013 9:25 PM well received. 13 we handed out 'show bags' to all children attending, with colouring sheets, pencils, sweets, and 1/14/2013 9:01 PM postcards advertising Messy Church 13 / 13
