EUCHARISTIC ADORATION & BENEDICTION Fortnight for Freedom th Wednesday, June 24 ~ 7:00pm in Merici Chapel Merici Chapel School is out, vacations planned a time of relaxation & fun. June the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus a heart overflowing with love for us. Try and use some of your free time and visit with Jesus in the chapel and tell Him how much you love Him. We show our love by our actions and example. On this third Sunday of June we remember our dads, living and deceased, on Fathers Day. This Sunday s 9:00am Mass will be offered for those enrolled in our Fathers Confraternity. Fathers will also be remembered at all our weekend Masses. The will be a Confraternity Mass offered every month through next May. A few days back I visited with our Ladies Guild and I was privileged to install their officers for the upcoming year. The Guild also gave the parish a gift: twenty thousand dollars! That sum represents a lot of dedicated work on the part of the Guild members. We talked things over and agreed to spend a few of those dollars on some worship-related projects: First, the Guild s generosity will provide for proper seating in Merici Chapel. For ten years the Chapel has had a mixture of stack chairs and office chairs. We have ordered some comfortable chapel chairs with an attached kneeler and a bookrack. Second, the Guild will pay for the re-finishing of our sanctuary candlesticks. They are the originals, now sixty years old. You can see the tarnish and the dents received over the years. Third, I am often asked if anything can be done to brighten the two brass pillars that support the baldachino (canopy) over the tabernacle. We did some experimenting and found a compound to remove the tarnish and discovered that a good buffing would bring back the original luster. So the Guild has also agreed to fund that project. We will stash away the balance of the Guild gift for any unexpected need or improvement for worship. Our church, dedicated in 1955, celebrates it sixtieth birthday this year. It seems right to keep the building and its appointments looking their best. So here s a Great Big Tip of the St Charles Appreciation Hat to our Ladies Guild. Another word of thanks and appreciation goes to the St Charles Borromeo School 2015 Graduation Class. Those young men and women got together and donated a new cope for our liturgical services. The cope can be used by the priest at baptisms or during devotions such as the Stations of the Cross. It is a needed item as our prior vestment was quite old and had been repaired several times.
