Page 4 Convention Issue 2016 DoF News Sumter County District 5 Commissioner, Don Hahnfelds, left welcomed us to The Villages and to the area. While Barb Coksey, explained The Villages Honor Flight program that covers Lake, Marion, Sumter, Citrus and Hernando KWVA President, Larry Kinard, above standing, addresses the Convention. He focused on two main points: maintaining membership and preserving our Legacy. On the first, he stressed adding Korea Defense Service Veterans. On our Legacy. Mr. Kinard cited especially Dr. Jongwoo Han, President of the Korean War Legacy Foundation, Inc., which endeavors to preserve the legacy of the Korean War and KWVs in the forms both oral and artefactual histories. Their website has collected about 700 in-depth interviews of KWVs (including President Kinard s) and 7,000 historical artifacts. (www.kwvdm.org) Jake Feaster, above, was the only DoF Past President present. Life Charter Member Dale Riggs (below) #LC000009, Chapter 155 was introduced.

They reported some rather wide-spread differences, from chapters gradually approaching the point where the chapter no longer meets minimum chapter requirements, to growing membership very rapidly. Fall (October) DOF Executive Council Meeting Venue: Maxine Parker CID175 in Tampa. 2016-2017 (April) Department of Florida Convention Venue: Maxine Parker CID210 Merritt Island. Selection and Elections for DOF Officers for 2016-2017; Tom Thiel, Chairman of the Elections Committee reported that seven chapters sent in their ballot. Only the third VP position was contested. The result was four (4) for Mr. Arcand and three (3) for Mr. Parrish. HooJung Jones Kennedy, Advisor to the Republic of Korea President Park Geun Hye, National Unification Advisory Council, and Major (Ret d) Don Kennedy C.D., The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry (WR), both are Members of Chapters 169 and 158.
