Large-print hymnals and Bibles are available. Please let an usher know if you would like one. We believe that God put the wiggle in children, and all are welcome in worship regardless of their ability to sit still. If you d like to step out of the sanctuary with your child, please feel free to visit the chapel (to the right of the sanctuary) where the service is streaming. Call to Confession Confession The Reverend Erika Funk Prayer of Confession One: Holy God, we confess that we like to keep track. We keep track of the dollars we give away, the hours we devote to others, and the ways others disappoint us. All: We confess that we expect that you do the same thing, and we worry that you keep a running tally of our missteps and shortcomings. Deep down, we are afraid that you are working out some great mathematical equation that will determine whether or not we are worthy of your love. One: Open our ears and our hearts to receive the good news that, no matter the equation, your final calculation always equals love. In your arithmetic, mercy is greater than vengeance. Forgiveness is greater than resentment. Grace is greater than score-keeping. All: By your Spirit, help us to use those calculations in our own lives and our relationships, so that others may know your grace and love through us. One: In silent prayer, let us confess to God the things we choose not to speak aloud. Assurance of Pardon One: Friends, believe the good news. All: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. *Response (Hymn No. 581) gloria patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen. Sacrament of Baptism Wilkes is the daughter of Zenny and Mac Aycock. First Church does not meet during the summer. Sacrament of Baptism Virginia Wilkes Aycock *Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. *Hymn No. 645 1 Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation, the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation. With healing balm my soul is filled, and every faithless murmur stilled: 2 What God s almighty power has made God s gracious mercy keepeth; by morning glow or evening shade God s watchful eye ne er sleepeth. Within the kingdom of God s might, lo! all is just and all is right: Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above 3 The Lord is never far away, but, through all grief distressing, an ever-present help and stay, our peace and joy and blessing, as with a mother s tender hand God gently leads the chosen band: 4 Thus all my toilsome way along I sing aloud thy praises, that all may hear the grateful song my voice unwearied raises. Be joyful in the Lord, my heart; both soul and body, take your part: *Hymn No. 450 Be Thou My Vision 1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art; thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. 2 Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true Word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my soul s shelter, and thou my high tower; raise thou me heavenward, O Power of my power. 3 Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise; thou, mine inheritance, now and always; thou and thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art. 4 High King of Heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven s joys, O bright heaven s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. *Hymn No. 744 1 Arise, your light is come! The Spirit s call obey; show forth the glory of your God, which shines on you today. 2 Arise, your light is come! Fling wide the prison door; proclaim the captives liberty, good tidings to the poor. Arise, Your Light Is Come! 3 Arise, your light is come! All you in sorrow born, bind up the brokenhearted ones and comfort those who mourn. 4 Arise, your light is come! The mountains burst in song! Rise up like eagles on the wing; God s power will make us strong.
