Mirror Me Gather the kids to sit in a group with you sitting in front of them. Explain that today, we re learning about an example Jesus set for us that we should follow! The kids will follow you by mirroring everything that you do. Show them an example and guide them to do the motions as if they are your mirror. Do all kinds of hand motions then incorporate standing mirror motions as well. After kids have gotten used to mirroring, choose different kids to be the leader while everyone else mirrors. Color Jesus Washed the Disciples Feet Coloring Sheets Tell preschoolers that today they will have the opportunity to learn about being kind. Provide coloring supplies and coloring sheets to the preschoolers. Allow them to color on their pages while they wait for the session to begin. p CONNECTION POINT GAME c Estimated time: 5-10 minutes Tech: Connection Point slide, t Connection Point theme music p People: Host, everyone h Props: none Game Instructions This simple game is for all kids and leaders in the room. Start off by having the kids sit in a large circle. Then they can remove one shoe. On the Host s signal, they can bring it to the middle of the circle. Then, once they are back in place in a circle, the Host can mix up the pile of shoes. Again, on the Host s signal, all the kids race back to the pile to find their shoes, go back to their spot in the circle, and try to be the first one sitting down. To simplify the game, consider calling smaller groups to participate. For example, invite all boys to play, then all girls to play. Host (Play Connection Point theme music and show Connection Point slide.) (enters after theme music plays) Hi everyone, welcome to Connection Point! Today s game is for everyone! The first thing we need to do is make one big circle! Now that everyone is sitting down in the circle, I need you all to take off one, and only one, shoe and hold it in your hand. On my signal, I want everyone to walk their shoe to the middle of the circle and put it on the ground, then walk back to where they were sitting in the circle. Does everyone see where they are sitting? Great! Ready? 1, 2, 3. Great! Now that everyone is back and sitting down, when I say Go, you will race to find your shoe, and try to be the first one to sit down back in your spot with your shoe. Ready? On your mark, get set, GO! The Hosts and the leaders will need to monitor this part of the game to make sure the kids are playing safe and kind. This relay can be played multiple times depending on your schedule and environment. Great job, everyone! Now let s all put our shoes back on. (Leaders can help children who are having trouble.) I have a question: Where do shoes go? On your feet, right! Today, we ll hear a story about feet! Yes, a story about feet in the Bible, so let s listen really closely! (Theme music/slide to transition. Host leads into next segment.) FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL 8
v BIBLE STORY c Estimated time: 5-6 minutes Tech: Christ Focus, Life Point, and t Bible Story slides; Bible Story video p People: Storyteller Props: small table, plates, cups, h play food, towel, pitcher of water, large bowl (Play the Bible Story video or tell the following Bible story.) STORYTELLER (Show Bible Story slide.) Hi, friends! What a great day it is to learn about Jesus! I love reading about Jesus in the Bible. Do you? That s great! Let s find out what happened in today s Bible story. Jesus was sharing a meal with His disciples. This was a very special meal because it was the last meal that Jesus would eat with His friends. Jesus loved His disciples very much and He wanted to show how much He loved them. During the meal, Jesus got up and wrapped a towel around His waist. (wraps towel around waist) Then He poured water into a bowl. (pours water into bowl) (Choose a volunteer to sit on a chair next to the bowl of water. Pretend to wash his feet.) Jesus stooped down. He began to wash a friend s feet. Then He dried the friend s feet with the towel that was wrapped around Him. (Choose a volunteer to be Peter.) Peter said that he did not want Jesus to wash his feet. Servants did not even wash people s feet. But Jesus told Peter it was important. Jesus washed Peter s feet. (pretends to wash Peter s feet) When Jesus was done washing their feet, He returned to His seat at the table. Jesus asked them, (Open the Bible and read John 13:12, 14-15.) Do you know what I have done for you? So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another s feet. For I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you. Jesus wanted the disciples to understand that they should love others. By washing their feet Jesus was showing them that they should be servants. Jesus wanted Peter and the other disciples to choose to be kind like Jesus. Let s say: Choose to be kind like Jesus. (Show Christ Focus slide.) You choose to be kind like Jesus when you share what you have. You choose to be kind like Jesus when you help your mom pick up the toys on the floor. There are a lot of ways that we can choose to be kind like Jesus. When we are kind to people, then we are also loving one another. Jesus wants us to love one another. (Show Life Point slide.) Let s pray. Jesus, thank You for loving us and for being kind to us. Teach us how to love others. Show us how we can be servants to people and be kind to them. We love You, Jesus. Amen. STAGE MANAGER (Show Session Title slide.) Can you believe that Jesus washed His disciples dirty feet? He was a true servant! Do you know who else was a servant today? (motions while holding empty coffee cup) My leader! What a nice thing she did! Seeing how Jesus served others makes me want to look around this week for ways that I can serve people like Jesus did. Maybe it s not washing people s feet, but maybe it s helping someone carry something, or cleaning up at home, or just hugging someone who needs it. I m going to be looking for ways to serve like Jesus did. I hope you will, too! Be sure to grab a One Conversation page on your way out. It will help you talk with your family about what you ve learned. Can t wait to see you next week! FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL 13
p HUDDLE UPS (OPTIONAL) This time is designed for churches that have a pick-up time from a large room as parents arrive. It s a great time for follow-up conversations and questions from small group leaders about the session s content. You also can use the missions emphasis (below). (Print the following for your small group leaders.) What did Jesus do for His disciples at this meal? (washed their feet) Did Peter want Jesus to wash His feet? (no) How can we be kind to the people around us like Jesus was? (Allow for responses.) MISSIONS EMPHASIS (OPTIONAL) Explain that missionaries in the Czech Republic want to be kind to the Czech people. Talk about what it means to be kind to people. Discuss some ways you can be kind to people. Someone waiting in line to pay for groceries at the grocery store An elderly person walking into the church The people who collect the garbage Your mom drops her purse and everything falls in the floor A new family who moves into your neighborhood Teachers Missions Story: Families Reaching Families Taylor goes to camp every summer. It s a lot like the camps in your area. He plays wacky games, hikes in the mountains, and makes new friends. What makes this camp different? It s in the Czech (CHECK) Republic, a country right in the middle of Europe. And it s not just for kids it s for whole families! Families come to learn English, make crafts, play games and sports, and have a great time. Going to camp is a great way to make new friends, but it s also a great way to talk to people about Jesus. Taylor s parents, Harold and Ginger Johnson, are missionaries who plan the summer family camps. Taylor and his younger brother, Hayden, help their parents. The camps are a great way to build trusted relationships with campers. Most of the Czech people have heard of Jesus, but they do not choose to follow Him. Many Czechs do not believe that God is real. Once the Czech families get to know the Johnson family, they want to know who Jesus is and why Christians are so much fun to be around. The Johnsons want people to hear about Jesus and have an opportunity to love and trust Him. FOR LIFE PRESCHOOL 14
